A Fake Smile

I see you every day, smiling and laughing,
you never go anywhere, without that infectious grin,
you always say that everything is alright, but is it really?
is everything really alright? Is nobody around you, like me, suffering in silence?

You may be saying that people should always be happy,
but for many, like me, happiness is something unachievable and forgotten,
not to mention the pain I feel, day after day, night after night,
but you keep insisting that happiness is the only thing that matters.

When you say, do not frown and always smile, I just make a fake one,
for I do not want to hurt you, just to not want you to worry over me,
in fact, it would be better if you just forget about me, and leave me,
so that I do not have to pain myself, faking something I do not know.

I wouldn't call this a poem... More like a short essay. No because it doesn't rhyme, but because of it's inconsistencies as a poem. But, as an essay, I'd say it's not to bad. But from person to person, if this is truly the way you feel, life is too short to not be happy. There is so much good in the world. You just have to raise a middle finger to the shit that gets you down and just live your life. Make that smile real.

I always thought it was important to be congruent and real with people, but the older I've gotten I realized that a fake smile is needed for most places. The average person seems to trudge along their lives ignorantly blissful. They feel uncomfortable when someone near them is sad. It's just important to have a few people who understand you and you can be real around, but most the other people are content with just the saccharine persona.

hahaha always smile for people that you love even though it hard ...
I do not love people anymore. Attachments such as those to people only hurt you, one way or another.

If there was so much good, I would not be writing this. But its just how I feel.

There are few who understand me, but only because I was willing enough to tell them what I felt.

When a carpenter builds a building, they know all too well that one day that building will fall. It's the natural process of life. That carpenter is still building that building. It makes the grieving process harder, but it makes the time you have with what you built all the more worth while.

Well, you're obviously deep into whatever it is troubling you. So much so that you can't even imagine a light at the end of the tunnel. Listen, brother, just because your eyes are closed to the good things in life doesn't mean that good things don't exist. One day you'll realize that what I say is the truth, not just wishful thinking. I've had what most would consider a pretty hard life. And I still smile every single day, because tomorrow is coming, and the sun will still be in the sky.

You are right. Our possessions and cravings lead to suffering. I feel like you came to that decision based on sadness more than self-actualization; however.
You make due with what you've got. When dealt a hand, you play it. Things end in sadness, because endings are sad. Nobody wants to say goodbye to something they love and cherish. The time you have with said thing is what makes life worth living.

Yes, but one can choose to liberate themselves from all cravings through admonishing possessions by choice alone. There does not have to be sadness entangled in that decision.

You don't choose everything you have. When I spoke, I was aiming more towards the people around him. You can't choose your family. And your friends... If you choose not to have friends by doing what you said, sadness is already there from being alone. Life is what you make it... And the people you surround yourself with have an effect as well.
