Well, his motives may not have been entirely selfish, but his methods sure were in my opinion. If we look at it that way, Danzo, Pain, Obito weren't so selfish either, yet their actions end up hurting nearly everyone around them. When he betrayed Karin, that was pretty selfish for his revenge. Him running away from the village could possibly be seen as selfish.
Maybe selfish isn't the most specific word to describe it, but his path is much more destructive and MUCH less focused on others and teamwork than the "light" path characters. Sasuke was clearly meant to have the more negative and loner path, and darkness has been the term for that, which was more of what I was connecting to.
If you think that good and evil don't exist, then I feel sorry for you. Not to mention, I'm certain you have fallen prey to acts of both good and evil and your heart acted on both actions.
Here is a thing that most people fail to understand (however you seem to at least have an idea of it). There is no "good" or "bad", no "dark" or "light". Its all a matter of perspective, and ideals. Sasuke is a pure character, he does what he has to and he uses the ways he sees as most efficient to achieve his goals. His revenge doesn't mean much to him, that is only what it comes off as. What means a lot to him his clan, his brother and now his village. The things he wanted to protect, that is why he was so drenched in hatred and darkness. He only held unto the things he lost, the things he wanted to protect but was unable to. Sasuke now has a thing he want to protect that is still very much alive. He doesn't want to avenge his clan or brother anymore, he rather wants to save whats left of them. The memories, the ideals and their dreams. He wants to cling unto the things that never really die with a person.
His character was meant to be the one lost, the one so drenched in darkness and despair that he saw no way out, no light. Which is what makes him such a pure character. The one that loses their ways will either fall victim to despair or they will find their path through the pain and darkness that lays ahead. That is his character, a man who endures the pain of the world and still wishes to cling to the things he once loved. People who label him as either completely selfish or evil are people with an ideal and mind that has clearly never gone through much dramatic stress, despair, pain or hatred.
thee only reason sasuke is protecting naruto is so that they can stop IT,,,otherwise alll his like dreams and motives would be gone,,,
to think abuot it,, sasuke is only doing this for himself
