This granny has more balls than many 20 yr olds. Best way to stop criminals is by not giving into them, EVER!!

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (AP) — A masked robber apparently thought the 96-year-old owner of a neighborhood grocery store in Marshfield would be an easy target for his crime. But, he was so wrong.

Margaretta Wolf has owned the store bearing her family name for 54 years. And she wasn't about to turn over her cash to the armed intruder after he ordered her to open the cash register.

"I said: 'I'm not opening up that cash register and that's it, I'm not opening it. I said you can have all the Tootsie Rolls you want but I am not opening that cash register,'" said Wolf.

The man in the silver mask and carrying a knife continued to give Wolf orders during the robbery attempt Monday.

"He said, 'Walk in the back of the store,' I said, 'I'm not walking no place, I'm standing right here,'" Wolf recounted.

The elderly store owner stood her ground when the man flashed a pocketknife and placed it on the counter.

"I said, 'I'll press a button and I'll have somebody here in seconds,'" she said.

Wolf said the would-be robber appeared frustrated, looked around, spotted a security camera in the corner, grabbed the knife and fled.

Marshfield Police Lt. Darren Larsen said he's just glad Wolf is OK.

"In this instance, certainly again while not recommended with what took place, we're just very, very happy Marge was not injured," Larsen told WAOW-TV ( ).

Wolf said she has a few words for the suspect when police catch up with him.

"What do I say to him? I say I think you got some punishments coming, and it will be a little bit more than scrubbing the floor," she said.

when I will be 96 years old.. I won't give a damn... ow wait... I am 29 and just don't... people tried to rob me before. None were successful... except once... a baseball bat against the head... didn't had a big mouth after(literally... lost some teeth) but still... don't give up your dignity. Still they would have to knock me out.

We all die someday, what are you afraid of. Would you die bowing before everyone that confronts you or stand tall and die proud.
i would not be proud to die for something like money. i'm thinking about the people i'm leaving behind, like my 10 year old sister and my parents. i'm not leaving them behind for selfish reasons such as my pride. i would actually be ashamed for letting my parents and relatives suffer because i was too foolish to back down from a fight.

hmm.. i don't know, maybe don't act bad ass when people are holding weapons against you? do you want to die protecting something as meaningless as money?
In my case - I am very certain I can handle myself.

That said - what this woman was protecting wasn't just money. It was a way of life. She's owned that store for years, and it's been how she puts food on the table and pays the bills.

The reason people do stuff like that is because stores have made it policy to hand over money in the register without provoking further hostilities. You get fired if you don't, because it's against store policy.

People walk in and threaten because they know this. Most of them aren't killers. If they were killers who wanted money - they'd go shoot up a drug dealer's house, or they would be organized in their efforts to 'protect' businesses. The majority are not killers and don't have it in them to kill anyone. Particularly in a manner as personal as a blade.

It's because we've cowed to these types of people that we've created the environment where this type of behavior is rewarded.

I'm not going to tolerate it like generations before me. I'm not going to "be nice" and "understanding." If you can't function in society without intimidating and forcing others to provide you with a living - then you don't belong on the face of this planet, and I'm happy to deliver you to a more appropriate location.

i understand your point but i would not have acted the same way the granny did, that's just me. that doesn't mean that i don't admire her courage. she's a brave person and she definitely has my respect.
