8trigrams seals

8trigram seals is the technique Minato used to seal half of Kyubis chakra inside his son(Naruto). I've seen that many people don't know the difference between 8trigram seals and Shiki fujin.

Like Minato said here, Shiki fujin helped to seal half of Kyubis chakra along with himself with the shiki fujin:

But about the remaining half of Kyubis chakra, he didn't sealed it with Shiki fujin like people think, but he sealed it in Naruto with the 8trigram seals(or Hakke fuuin). That's why after sealing half of Kyubis chakra with the shiki fujin, he said "now with 8trigram seals" and summon the ceremonial throne which is needed for the sealing jutsu:

About 8trigram seals or Hakke fuuin, you must know that it's only a variation of the Shishou fuuin, which is used mostly to seal giant ennemies or evil chakras and you can seal it either in a human or even an object, but in our case Minato decided to seal the giant evil ennemy(Kyubi) in a human(Naruto). This is the databook of the Shishou fuuin:

A sealing formula that seals evil using a circle four images!!

As the result of a fuuinjutsu, a sealing formula is carved into, for instance, a human body or an object. The "Four Images Seal" is one of these. This sealing formula is mainly used when a giant enemy or evil spirit needs to be sealed. To use it, it is necessary for the user to have great ability. In Naruto, two of these "Four Images Seals" have been carved. This is called an "Eight Trigrams Sealing-style"*.

→On Naruto's abdomen is the "Sealing Formula of the Kyuubi." The Yondaime Hokage performed it on the infant Naruto.

The bolded part is to show that this sealing jutsu real purpose is to seal evil or giant opponents either in a human or an object.

So basically it's Hakke fuuin is a variation of this jutsu that Minato used to seal half of Kyubis chakra in Naruto.

It just shows how much of a genius Minato really was. Sealing 50% of the Kyuubi in an item (Naruto here), and precise enough to allow the Kyuubi's chakra to slowly drip into Naruto's chakra system.. it's like it was made for him. The whole key thing only makes it more impressive.
