well for starters, it's no use what kind of sharingan you have if your body can't keep up the speed. Obito has space-time technique he can warp himself around but what if the 8th gate is so fast that he gets surprized by gai ?

he can't counter him with the sharingan, only with his spacetime technique to make gai slip trough him
