Well, Gai’s 8 gates are not like any other suicidal move, because Gai actually fights with the gates and probably die after the enemy is defeated (we are not talking about madara here), while with other suicidal techniques you just kill yourself first and attempt to take the enemy with you (e.g C0 and Danzo’s jutsu).

Life is the utmost thing to protect and death is divine punishment in earth. A classical intent in a fight is taking down the opponent and survival.

But last gate is not for some classic VS match or tournemant. It is for protecting something greater than someone's own life. Motives determines the result of it; if Gai's motive would be protecting someone at the cost of his own life yeah; it counts as a win.

It counts because it is used when someone is willing to protect something greater than his own life. It is still a part of his power.


If Gai wrecked Pain with 8th gate before he killed everyone would people say "lol nope it does not count"? No they would acknowledge his power. Would Kakashi say "he killed himself so i am superior kamui gg"? No he canonically admitted inferiority and he would do that at same situation.

A shinobi fights even though they know they can die at many situaion. Look at Gokage vs Madara. Atleast Gai can wipe ghe floor with top tiers even at the cost of his life unlike most.

1-You're talking as if everyone has kamui when two people at max can use it .. ......
2- when gai used his 8th gate he f****** the s*** outta madara . And madara is literally the strongest character in NV as of now ! So in short when he uses it . You're ****ed aka you will die before gai does aka it's a draw . So you can say that gai can be as strong as he needs to be !
Also when we say top list . We say 8th gate gai aka gai when he is in 8th gate form aka we measure the power not the consequences aka he'z very f****** strong

this is right any other ninja would do the same to save the world but they knew they wernt gonna do shit to him. Gai was able to while usesing close quaters fighting a bold move to fight jinchuriki...noone elses had the power to hold off madra for the real heroes but gai and that alone brings him to top teir shinobi list hes not fighting a mokuton statue like the kage and n.a or eating war dust like others (minato and gang )
