I think it's very likely. To activate the 8th gate it takes a lot of physical damage, but since he would already be dead, than that side effect would not matter at all.

That also points out how overpowered the edo techniqe is. I mean you can revive legendary ninja with fodder sacrifices and become nearly indestructible, the fact that they have been destroyed so easily by the alliance, i think is just to fast forward to the main battles which just undermines some good fights that could have developed.
