Guy making his final stand against Madara was so rushed and forced that I barely got to appreciate how anticipated and awesome the full 8 gates were. I often say on here Obito makes a more suitable FV & that Maddy should've got his turn first but even looking past that...

Not only is Guy using 8 Gates to defeat a mistake of his own generation but also on a classmate he knew well. Kakashi in the anime hinted Guy would often fill in the missing spot left by Obito on Team Minato. Might's reaction to learning who Tobi was is also significant.

Obito getting a chance to rematch with Guy also reverts Obito into his past self. In what is basically a heightened version of the Chunnin fight they had, Obito's genuine desire to win could remind him of the person he used to be unconsciously. Making him realise very little has really changed could be the first step to Obito's regret / resolve unravelling. Which Naruto realises will ultimately lead to his downfall.

It also gives Kakashi more incentive to deal with Obito as well as giving this awful scene a bit more weight.

Just a small missed opportunity. The final Madara arc seems so rushed that the 8 Gates just feel like a last minute forgotten addition anyway. ​

I have to agree with you. Not only were the 8 gates rushed they were also basically "useless" against Madara. Guy would've destroyed Obito with them.

The best they could do to make the fight thematically relevant was have Madara say "I've battled 8 gates users before you know and can deal with 8 gates effortlessly."

And then...in the peak of his power, he could only just survive the 8 gates? Madara was a terrible FV because he the outdated fossil had no relation or knowledge of the main cast we had known for the previous 15 years.

As a jyubi jinchuuriki? He would've warped his whole body (not parts) into dimension making it bad for Gai to use 8 gates. Or even warp Gai into dimensions. And I think Gai knew that so he didn't try to throw his life away for nothing.

Sounds like such a perfect counter that it would've made an impressive match. Wouldn't be hard to write in Guy altering the space between them to drag him out of his dimension like he did with Madara. Sounds like a great fight actually.

Kakashi generation is the most talented and second strongest generation in the series. They were younger than all the others yet this powerful. I would honestly like to see a fight between the two but Madara had to be relevant for this one for some reason.

LOL, do you even know how kamui works? Physical attacks can't do shit to Obito. Guy would've wasted his life by using 8 gates while Obito simply trolls him via phasing and teleportaion.

Madara was the only suitable punching bag they could find, on which guy could showcase his moves. Obito is not a good match for Guy, ability wise.

I agree. It would have been nice to see Eight Gates Gai working in tandem with Naruto/Sasuke/Minato/Tobirama. Perhaps we could have gotten some insight from Tobirama in regards to the Gates origins as well.
