gai avoids it, and tries to beat madara down. the attacks continously are intercepted by maddy's limbo ghosts.
he can also use susano as an extra barrier against gai. no reason why not.
and chibaku tensei to end it.

Yata isn't Ninjutsu and changes it's properties to block attacks, please tell me more on how this works. Madara is pretty arrogant, If he's dealing with guy like the OP said then it would happen like that. Itachi seals the downed Madara, it's as simple as that.
