6th Hokage. Why not an Uchiha?

Always wondered why an Uchiha was never made or considered for Hokage, considering that they are the other primary clan that formed Konoha. They have put out some seriously strong and leader like ninja, Shisui, Itachi, heck, even Sasuke. Now I understand the whole Madara thing, but the rest of the clan didn't support his attack against Senju and Konoha. I think it would be pretty cool if Sasuke redeemed himself by killing Tobi and helping Naruto defeat Madara. I also, always thought that Itachi had the best demeanor as well as ability to be a Hokage, since he always placed Konoha even above his own clan. Oh well, your guys thoughts now that we are nearing the end.xd

Itachi would have made a great Hokage had it not been for the clan putting together a coup.

However, the strain placed between the Uchiha clan and the Senju was just too great to have an Uchiha take power - that's why they were "given" the role of the Konoha police.

True, but then they were planning a coup d'etat, and Senju were only suspicious because they thought an Uchiha was responsible for the Kyuubi's attack on the Hidden Leaf.

you forgot that they weren't trusted by the senju/ rest of konoha

but as we've seen so far 3 of the 6 hokages have been directly related to each other (senju) 2 were students of the previous hokages and danzo was already a high ranking shinobi who had enough charisma to sway the feudal lords decision

Because they almost don't exist as a shinobi organization or clan anymore. Really, only Itachi and maybe Shisui would have been suitable, but Shisui destroyed his body and the 3 Elders overruled Hiruzen in the decision for what to do in regards to the Uchiha coup, so Itachi was a no-go. And really, Itachi was only 13-14 years old at the time of the massacre, which appears to be even younger than Hiruzen was when he was made Hokage. Really, as Ebisu said, Hiruzen was trying to find Jiraiya and make him the Fifth, but Jiraiya had more important things to do at the time.
