Deidara can only win it if he manages to get off of the ground fast enough, and throw himself far into the sky. I'd go with Gai more times than not, though.

Hebi Sasuke's speed was too much for Deidara so if he stays on ground 6th Gate Gai closes the distance & blitz him.
Now if he decides to fly, Gai showed that he can jump so high when he's in Gates so he jumps to the air & burns Deidara along with his birds with Asa Kujaku.

50 meters and Deidara doesn't start in the air?

He doesn't have enough time to do anything really, and Gai will be in his face in mere moments. Deidara gets wrecked before he even knows what happened. He'd have to have clay prepared going into the fight to do anything here, otherwise he gets wrecked attempting to prep.

Also Gai doesn't have to be directly in his face to use MP. He can initiate the technique without traveling the entire 50 meters considering the range it has.
