Here are five things the producers can do to make this upcoming manga a massive success like its predecessor.
1. Return to the old roots of the original manga:
If Kishimoto wants his "Boruto" to be as successful as "Naruto," he needs to push for elements from the first season to be utilized again. That means more ninja battles involving strategy and tactic, and other ninjas from different villages taking part in the plot. Also, it would be interesting to see some conflict between countries again. It's hard to see how "Boruto" will be interesting if it takes place in a world without any strife. If "Boruto" borrows pure elements from the original series, the new generation may be something worth watching.
2. Focus on character development for all the characters:
This was not a problem in the first season of "Naruto." We learned much about the histories of characters like Neji, Shikamaru and Rock Lee. We even got to see their fights in full-action. In Shippuden, the manga seemed to take a turn and solely focused on Team 7, all but forgetting the existence of the other ninjas. Making fodder of important characters is something the creators will want to divert from in "Boruto," if they want it to feel authentic.
3. Need for new interesting antagonists:
In the "Naruto" spinoff, "Naruto: The Seventh Hokage," we see a new enemy despite the fact that the world was united. This new enemy was unoriginal, and he was like a mix between Orochimaru and Danzo. In the spinoff, he just didn't seem like the threat that characters like Orochimaru and Madara were in the original series. This has largely to due with the fact that there is no strife in the "Naruto" world anymore. With that being said, the creators will have to find a way to break the balance so fans get the chaos we crave.
4. Originality in Boruto's character:
Boruto has to be original in his own right. In the movie, "Boruto: Naruto the Movie," we saw that he did not aspire for the same things that Naruto did as a child. This was a good sign, and we saw Boruto express views new to the series. However, although he is considered a prodigy, his character's fighting style is identical to that of Naruto's. It's important that in the new series, Boruto develops into his own character, with his own Jutsu, and his own strategies. He needs to live up to his status as a prodigy, the same way Sasuke and Neji did in the first series. This means less Rasengan and Shadow Clone Jutsu and more of something different. Perhaps he can make use of his lightning element, merging it together with his gentle-fist style.
5. Boruto needs to unlock Byakugan:
In order for Boruto to ever even come close to top tier in the verse he will need to unlock the Byakugan. It will differentiate him from Naruto and finally give Byakugan fans justice for crapping on it throughout Naruto.
