THE FOURTH NINJA WAR.
A WASTED OPPORTUNITY?

A PREMATURE REVIEW.

---------------
When the 4th Ninja War began. I was very excited. I thought we would really get to see other minor character shine. For example. The Konoha 11. Back in part one, on several occasions we got to witness the skills and varying abilities of other characters during the chunin exams and the save Sasuke arc.

Now that we have a situation where all characters are on the field... what have we really got to show for it?

Kakashi had a chance to go all out and show us why they call him "The man who copied a thousand jutsu" and immediately was cut away when he was about to show us his real skill. Personally I was hoping to see why they call him Hokage material in terms of strength but again... bummed out... (I was also hoping to see him use rasengan in combat ;))

Then we have the Konoha 11... speculated to be the next upper echelon of Konohagakure, but again... we have yet to see the majority of them display the strength they have gained over the last few years within the story. The same with the sand siblings and even the Bee's students.

Now most recently we have the 5 Kages vs Madara. This too has seemingly been cut short to favour another battle. Will we return to that battle?! I Surely hope so but I have a bad feeling alot will have happened off panel is/when it does.

Now. Naruto's new "abilities". Since gaining Kyuubi mode Naruto started out a total badass, but as time has gone on, he is proving less able. What happened to the display of speed he demonstrated against Kisame and later A? His performance against Nagato was extremely poor. Someone whose skills he should have had prior knowledge of. He was EXTREMELY lucky to have survived that. If Itachi had not given him that crow and if that crow had not worked on Itachi as it did... it would have been all over.

Then we have the fact that Naruto did no damage to Tobi whatsoever on head-butting him. Also taking a bad hit from one of the Bijuu Paths in the most recent chapter when he should have been able to dodge it. (I'm hoping all this is due to the fact that Naruto has clones running around, thus dividing his chakra making him slightly weaker)

I don't know about you... but the amount of inconsistency displayed over this arc is growing tiresome... and for the first time, I am losing faith in Kishi' as an author. If have Bleach for this kind of inconsistent inconclusive dribble.

So far I rate this arc 3/5.

What do you think? Do you feel Kishimoto isn't using this war arc to the best of his story telling ability or not?

Bashing/flaming/raging my review is welcome! ;)

EDIT

all the legends like the gin and kin brothers were really disappointing because they were defeated way too easily. There's just way too much going on atm.
This is also true. Not only was the Kakashi's fight cut short... but was was the 7 Swordsmen's and several other legendary characters.

Further to that. Kabuto summoned several Edos for "psychological warfare". This includes Asuma, Sai's "brother", Neji's father... you get the picture... yet again this side of the story seems to have been cast aside. Was I the only one to expect several grudges and feelings to be resolved... All we saw was Sai and Gaara...

Kishi has set up ALOT of content and at the same time has progressively cast it all to one side.

I don't like the fourth ninja war, it messed up the story.
Before the war the rinnegan and the sharingan were really special. Now in the war tobi and madara spam the rinnegan and sharingan, all the legends like the gin and kin brothers were really disappointing because they were defeated way too easily. There's just way too much going on atm

I agree with you about the konoha 11 part and the kakashi part but I don't agree with the naruto thing.
Before rasengan used to be really powerful jutsu but now Naruto has like 1000 rasengan variations(mini rasengan mini rasen shuriken)

The war messed up the power levels and the storyline.

i disagree, i dont think they should make naruto invincible like that mate - i mean that would be too much overkill
I don't think he should be made invincible either. But the tone has been set... rather than seemingly nerfing Naruto... make it so the enemies are more difficult in the sense that speed alone cannot win. He seems now as if he is more durable but 0 increased speed.

The first series, Naruto, was the build-up for this series. We already saw what these characters can do in that series but, with all due respect, the spotlight is no longer on them or for them.

We have moved on. That and the fact that the war is not over as yet makes it unfair to call it a wasted oppurtunity.

It doesn't matter Naruto will ALWAYS have Plot No Jutsu covering his ass. I am veeeery dissapointed in this war. Every Edo is dying way to easy! But hey the whole war is just another plothack >_>.

WTH HOW MANY TIMES DO I (AND THE MANGA) HAVE TO REPEATED MY/ITSELF.
The Kin Gin bros are BEING CONTROLLED and ARE DEAD, they aren't even SCRATCHING the surface of their powers (Manga Facts). I can go on...
Also, READ THE FIGHT AGAIN. The Kin Gin bros weren't defeated easily, they defeated all 3 of them (Darui, samui, atsui etc). Darui just got lucky because the words switched.

p.s. Darui Badass still xd

That's a fair point to make... however the key to maintaining any fandom is to maintain character development... there are many fans of individual characters from... let's say the Konoha 11... and yet they have been abandoned plotwise. The main focus does not have to be on these characters... but here is at least a focal point to showcase their NEW skills.

I have not so much called this are a wasted opportunity as much as I am questioning the possibility of it being such. The arc has already abandoned several interesting points... and for this much I say they were wasted... where the arc will go? Who knows?

It doesn't matter Naruto will ALWAYS have Plot No Jutsu covering his ass. I am veeeery dissapointed in this war. Every Edo is dying way to easy! But hey the whole war is just another plothack >_>.
That is of course true... unless Kishi decides to break from popular story telling tradition and have the protagonist actually lose (I doubt this will happen) he should at least try to maintain a level of plot driven consistency!

still it's kinda sad if 3 jonins defeat 2 legends if you know that weakened Nagato(=Pain) destroyed whole konoha

I do think that Kishi has let go a BIG opportunity.
yeah kishi had a lot of opportunities but he rushed it and skipped a lot of nice scenes
I was beginning to think I was the only one thinking this!

This is a good point... it's more of a large scale battle than a war as a war is compromised of many great battles over a long period of time. But having said that if we look at wars in ancient times... they are normally concluded in a shorter matter of time. This being said. There does seem to be little strategic thinking on a large scale in this war... No one has sent out a search party to locate the user of ET... They could pick up on Anko's trail to help them locate Kabuto... or do they believe him uninvolved now?

The Problem many keep forgetting, the Manga is call Naruto and the Toad Sage has prophesy that Naruto not Sasuke or any of the rest of the village is the one to not only win the war, but change the Ninja world. So how is the rest of the 11 and any other supposed to cope and top that?

O.O There, JONINS....exactly thats my point. And not only that the Kin Gin bros defeated all 3, but darui came back and blah blah blah (its in the manga). Garra was getting battered and bruised by the 2nd Mizukage, he was losing, his defence was being penertrated. Look how long it took to take him down (along with nearly all the shown IWR ninjas, most are still around). It took 2 Kages and a few Jonins after he himself obliterated nearly the whole of the division he faced (Look at the manga, it shows this is all PERFECTLY TRUE) to seal him.

You're acting as if they were alive (kin gin bros), and they were actually using even a third of there power. There being CONTROLLED (nuff said..) and are DEAD, and still defeated 3 jonins O.OO.OO.O(even though 1 came back). And even ten ten said that along with the other IWR ninjas, ten ten said they (the division) were getting annhilated by 1 man..... KIN.

I can still go on....xd

No one is saying they have to top Naruto... the point I'm making everyone is fighting... feature some of the characters who have been sidelined for most of Naruto Part II in a fight here and there... we're not looking for them to win the war or cure the hatred...

Even Itachi said... "Acknowledge others" to Naruto... how about Kishimoto learn something from his own characters! xD

I rate this arc a 2/5. I give a 2 because the Tobi=Madar? question. Everything else besides that is poor in content, even the fights.

Edo Kages were a joke, Dan was supposed to be super strong but we didn't get to see anything out of him, Hanzo was pretty much bested in 1 chapter by Mifune (I have no objection against Mifune being strong, but the one who named the Sannin could have put out a better fight), the list goes on...

Its also a war... there should be more... deaths? I made a threat about this but I'm not gonna repeat what I said back there.

To sum it up, I agree with your thread CasualMisfit, Kishimoto has for now (we don't know until its over I guess) missed a chance to show the secondary characters evolution. The plot is hollow and to me it fills like a big filler.
