1. Of course, Sasuke would go after Itachi. First, Itachi told him to. Second, look up filial piety. Sasuke's entire clan is suffering because their murderer is still out there. Since Sasuke is the only Uchiha left, he has to be the one do deal with it. Do you have any idea what that could do the mind of seven-year-old? This is no a personal vendetta. Sasuke is doing his duty to his clan. It doesn't matter how difficult is it. He has to do. Also, if he gave up because the goal was too lofty, what kind of message would that send? Kids, if you don't get to your goals, just give up. Naruto you had the worst grades in class and everyone hates you, give up on becoming Hokage.

2. Do you not understand what trauma does to the human mind? First, at this point in his characterization, Sasuke is very emotional. He is no longer rational like in Part 1. And, if he hadn't been emotional at that time, then Sasuke would have been a sociopath devoid of any human emotion. Second, when humans experience trauma or have their entire world turned upside down, they can't make rational decisions. It is not possible. They go back to the default. For the last three years, this hadn't been serve the Leaf. This has been revenge. Sasuke had no idea what to do. Everything he had done since he was seven was entirely pointless. Sasuke went back to the comfortable default, revenge. Take Zuko from Avatar. When he was faced with the decision at the end of season 2. Help the avatar or capture him. Despite the development he had received, he went back to the default. This default wasn't learn how to get over his need to please his father. the default was his motivation for the last several years, which was to capture the Avatar.

3. Sasuke is very obsessed with his goal, and that goal is revenge. Having girlfriends does not further this goal, so ignore them.

4. He planned on using Orochimaru and then killing him before he could take Sasuke's body from the very beginning.

edit: This is not justifying what Sasuke did (esp. not for 2). This is understanding what he did and why it makes sense for his characterization.

I would recommend you to update your definition of the edge. If crossed over you dont get back, so invalid . But yeah the lines of his edge are interesting indeed

Easily the worst decision Sasuke has ever made. Dude leaves his friends and true mentors (Who, BTW, probably could not have only made him more powerful but made him forget about this vengance thing) to be mentored by a psychopathic killed with no interest in him except to take over his body.

And Sasuke knows that.

Knew it was a joke and it was hilarious. I gotta be serious about this quote here though. If he would have stayed in the village, Sasuke would be weaker than he is now. The most he would have gotten to is Mangekyou Sharingan and he probably would of went blind by using it in this war or to help Naruto fight pain. He would of never have gotten Itachi's eyes due to the fact that Obito would of took Itachi's body after their battle. The path he choose was perfect in gaining strength.
