3rd hokage and danzo

doesn't it say in the manga that after the forth died danzo fought the 3rd for the title of hokage ?
i'm just not sure and i need to confirm it

the third was retired when minato died , minato was the hokage
when minato died the third wanted to be hokage again instead of the elders choosing a new one
danzo wanted to become the fifth hokage and the third wanted to come back to his spot , so they fought

I think you mixed up between when Tobirama sacrificed himself and said to Hiruzen that he would be the next Hokage that's why he can't sacrafice himself but before Tobirama said that Danzo was like no I was going to sacrifice my self. Its a bit confusing but is this what you were thinking about?

nope i'm not talking about that , and it's not confusing at all
i recall reading that danzo tried to take the position of the hokage from the third in the past and failed

i'm not sure they fought either , all i'm sure of is he tried to take over as hokage after minato died

All that happened between them was that:::
1. During the Uchiha massacre, Hiruzen was the only one out of the four elders (danzo being one of them) to not agree with that action, but it happened after danzo and the 2 other elders urged itachi to do so.

2. During the Third Shinobi World War, Danzō agreed to help Hanzō of Amegakure in order to receive help in claiming the title of Hokage. He sent some of his forces to deal with the Ame Orphans but they were all wiped out by Nagato.

3. In oder to claim the title of hokage from hiruzen he also established Anbu faction called Root, almost as if he's the appointed "hidden" hokage since the ANBU should only answer to the Hokage appointed.

4. The fourth raikage believed that Hiruzen died because of Danzo plotting and assisting Akatuski and Orochimaru during the attack.

5. Danzo was nowhere to be found during the Nine-tail attack on Konoha and he was also hiding during Pein's attack on Konoha as well, proving that he will try to take anything like a full-on-attack on his village as opportunity to stay hidden till it's safe to come out and take power from whomever is hokage, whether it's Hiruzen or Tsunade...

But never did he ever say to Hiruzen and him fought for the title... all that was said was that Hiruzen BEAT Danzo for the title of Hokage by being appointed a Kage by the first and second during the war. That wasn't an actual fight, just stating that he was appointed the title over him....
ACTUALLY.... When Danzo was killed by Sasuke he said thinking of Hiruzen.. who was I to you? or something along those lines, sounding like he admired Hiruzen more than it seemed.

but hiruzen is famous as the strongest hokage ever so i'll go with hiruzen

Yea when you said FOUGHT, i right away thought of that frame in the manga when they go back to their history with Tobirama during the first world war, and how hiruzen BEAT danzo for the title of kage. Only in the sense that he was appointed over him from both first and second hokage, pretty much a defeat in itself.

It's kind of mind boggling how he was able to use Shisui's kotoamatsukami ONE TIME PER DAY, and still not being able to manipulate people into appointing him as Kage looool

yea. wrong there, he's no leader of ANBU - Anbu responds only to the Hokage... what he led was an Anbu sub-division/faction ::: ROOT/Foundation ...those members plead their allegiance to him thus separating them from the Hokage's Anbu ninjas. All he did mostly was use orphans or kidnapped kids and raise them to be androids like Sai, he pretty much created almost all of the members for his own little wanna-be-Anbu.
