Naruto and Shikamaru walked down to the North Gate in order to meet with A, Gaara and B. Kakashi went to gather all of the genin up that made it into the finals of the chunin exam. Nearing the North Gate Naruto shouted Gaara's name as soon as he saw him and then ran toward him, Temari, Kankuro, A, Darui and C. He ran at Gaara and gave him a big hug, Gaara hesitated and gave a refreshing sigh before hugging Naruto. When they let each other go Naruto gave him a big grin. He then looked to his left and held out his right hand to the Raikage. A grasped his hand firmly.
Naruto: Nice to see you again, A.
A: The same to you... Hokage.
Naruto gave a faint grin before looking over the tall and bulky man's shoulder.
Naruto: Where's B? Did he stay behind to act as a substitute Raikage?
C held his stomach and laughed loudly.
C: If B-san were to become acting Raikage the whole village would become a night club by the time we come back.
A: Unfortunately, I have to agree with C. As powerful as he is he is not fit for the job. The elders are taking care of it but B needs to stay behind to protect the village as well. So he could not come.
Naruto: Oh, I understand. Wise call.
Temari slowly walked over to Shikamaru, who was hanging by in the wings of all the conversation, she stood right in front of him and stared at him. At this stage everyone had stopped talking and began watching the two of them. Shikamaru started off staring right back at her but then he started to lose it and his eyes started to jet off in lots different directions.
Temari: Even after all this time you're still like this around your wife, Shikamaru.
She leaned forward and quickly kissed him on the lips. His right arm made it's way up to the back of his head and his eyes chose a direction to stare in, the opposite one.
Temari: It's good to see you again, Shikamaru. How's she doing?
Shikamaru: She's doing fine, she's all ready for the exam. Kakashi-sensei's going to get everyone now.
Temari: Great, I hope she does well.
Shikamaru: I do too
Shikamaru had quickly eased into the conversation and is now standing comfortably speaking with her.
Naruto: Come on Love Birds we need to get a move on.
A, Naruto and Gaara proceeded forward ahead of the group while the others stayed behind, each having their own conversations with each other.
Gaara: Naruto, A? Did you both receive the information from Kirigakure?
Naruto and A: Yes.
A: In the letter it mentioned that the Mizukage had asked you for help, Hokage. I'm sure you've decided to give it to her.
Naruto: Yes, I've started gathering a quarter of our forces and we're sending them to Kirigakure.
Naruto raised his arm and pointed to the nearby ninja that were jumping from roof to roof.
Gaara: I'm guessing the rendezvous is at the East Gate.
Naruto: Yes, that's correct.
When they arrived outside the arena they were all greeted by a large group of jonin and chunin level ninja. Shikamaru took A, Gaara, Temari, Kankuro, Darui and C on up to the Kage viewing area while Naruto stayed behind with Kakashi in order to talk to all of the ninja.
Naruto: Kakashi-sensei are all of the participants in there waiting?
Kakashi: Yes they are Naruto.
Naruto: Alright. Everyone, listen up! You will be split evenly into eight groups. Four groups will be patrolling the perimeter of the arena and the other four will be patrolling the forest on the outside. I will make a shadow clone for each group so if anything happens be sure to get rid of my shadow clone so that the information will come back to me. Everybody got that?
Leaf Nina: Yes, Hokage sama!
Naruto: Okay, I'll leave you with Kakashi sensei. He'll split you up into your groups.
Naruto then formed the tiger handseal.
Naruto: Kage Bunshin no Jutsu.
He then creates eight clones, four on either side of him.
Naruto: Good luck everyone.
Naruto then walks past the ninja and into the arena, heading for the Kage viewing area.
Naruto: Welcome everyone to this year's chunin exam! I'm glad to see ninja from different villages here and allow me to say, you are all very welcome. The past few weeks have been very tough for you all, I can understand that. But this is the last day, today is the day where you will prove your strength to everyone. Remember one thing before you go into each match. Don't give up no matter what!
The massive crowd clapped and cheered but before Naruto sat back down in his chair he gave a thumbs up to Konohomaru Sarutobi, the proctor for this chunin exam. Konohomaru returned the favor and then turned around to face the six participants.
Konohomaru: The rules of this exam are simple. This is a tournament style exam, if you lose you're out, if you win you move up. It's that simple. There is to be no killing in these matches, if you do kill your opponent then you are automatically disqualified from the tournament. That is the only rule, you are allowed to do anything in order to make your opponent give up or lose consciousness. Are there any questions?
The girl standing in between Minato and another boy who was heavily bundled up in many layers of clothing jumped up and down on the spot with her hand raised in the air. Minato looked her up and down with wide eyes.
Minato: * She's... energetic *
Konohomaru: Yes, Neko?
Neko: Who's fighting who!?
Konohomaru: I was just getting to that.
Konohomaru flipped the chalkboard next to him around and revealed who was fighting who.
Konohomaru: Get familiar with that, that's the bracket. First up! Minato Uzumaki and Nagare Nara! The rest of you please proceed to the viewing area. Hey energetic girl, do me a favor and roll the chalkboard into the hallway.
Neko: No problem!
She grabbed the end of the chalkboard and charged off of the terrain and into the hallway. Followed by the other two boys. Nagare and Minato stood in front of each other. Nagare was a thin girl, average height, she had short black hair and she has dark brown eyes. She wears dark blue trousers and a dark green jacket that she always leaves open revealing her white t-shirt underneath. She wears the green jacket because she says she'll replace it with her chunin jacket some day.
Nagare: I didn't expect this.
Minato: Me neither * Damn the one person I didn't want to be partnered up with. The girl I like, I can't believe this *
Nagare: Good luck, Minato.
Minato: You too, Nagare.
She closed her eyes and gave Minato a cute smile. Minato tried to do the same but his anxiety got in the way.
Konohomaru: Are you two ready?
Nagare: Yes.
Minato: I suppose so.
Konohomaru: Alright, let the first round of this year's chunin exams begin!
Minato and Nagare jumped back until they were both at mid range of each other. Minato kept his eyes on his opponent while surveying the ground near her. He then reached around to his ninja pouch and retrieved a Flying Thunder God kunai which he threw up into the air and caught quickly, making it look like nothing.
Nagare reached around to her back wrapping her hands around the centre of the large windmill shuriken. She then threw the shuriken at Minato aiming for his waist. As she let the shuriken go she weaved the rat handseal and released from underneath her a thin line of her shadow which shot forward combining with the windmill shuriken's shadow strengthening it and increasing the speed.
Minato knows Nagare very well and her clan's abilities she is possibly aiming to trap him with her shadow from the very start. Minato waited and then dashed to the left performing an arc, now running toward Nagare.
Capturing him was not her true intention from the start she wanted to merely injure him or get him away from that kunai of his. So Nagare manipulated the shuriken so that it does not stop and that it continues after Minato but if she doesn't attempt to catch him now she could potentially end up being cut in half. So she decides to extend the shadow's reach and stop Minato in his tracks.
Once Minato notices the slight movement her hands make he weaves the tiger handseal and creates a shadow clone behind him which gets trapped in Nagare's shadow. Minato continues his run toward her and forces her to retrieve a kunai from her ninja pouch. Minato strikes at her with his kunai aiming for her left shoulder but she brings her kunai upwards in an instant and deflects Minato's kunai. (At this stage the windmill shuriken has poofedthe shadow clone and is now just lying on the ground) The moment Minato notices that she is focused upon his kunai he takes hold of the string attached to his pouch and then swiftly slams his palm into her right side the moment the two kunai meet. She is sent flying away from him, on the way she digs her feet into the ground in order to stop herself from going any further.
Minato: Sorry Nagare...
Nagare: No time for apologies.
He is suddenly engulfed in a smoke cloud, it takes him a few seconds to realise that this smoke creates its own shadow. But it was too late he could not move, Nagare had trapped him in her shadow. When the smoke cleared he could see her standing there on one knee with the rat handseal woven and ready.
Nagare: It's over, Minato. I win, honestly I'd expected more out of you I see how much you train and prepare for battles. I should know, we're on the same team.
Konohomaru: The winner is...
It took her a few moments to realise that the Minato she was talking to was not holding the Flying Thunder God kunai like before, her eyes widened and before she knew it, it was all over.
Minato: You were never really observant Nagare, so I've got to give it to you for noticing that.
Before she could turn around he appeared to her left and then to her right and then to her left again. It was never ending he was so fast.
Nagare: * How is he doing this he only has one Flying Thunder God kunai and there's no way he could have put seals all over the terrain in exact positions in such a short amount of time. *
Nagare felt her body become tighter, her hands were now pressed up against her chest and she could not move them. She was stuck making the seal, so she could not deactivate the jutsu. Finally Minato stopped in front of her after having flashed all around her too many times to count. He stood there spinning the Flying Thunder God kunai on the end of his index finger with a big grin on his face.
Minato: I win.
The crowd was stunned by what he had done and not a sound was heard from the stands, Minato impressed both his Father and the Raikage, Gaara however had some notion as to what was going on with Minato's tactic.
Konohomaru: And the winner is... Minato Uzumaki!

Chunin Exams: Round One!
