Well, anybody who sees me around this site might know I'm into the manga much anymore, I'm just reading it til this finish. So I post mostly in General Discussion and Chatterbox. But a recent world event just reminded me strongly of a word thrown around derisively by many fans on this base - "talk no jutsu" (TNJ).
As you may or may not have heard, the world's newest country, South Sudan, has been on the brink of civil war the past few weeks. President Salva Kiir, an ethnic Dinka, stripped his Vice President, Riek Machar, an ethnic Nuer, or power. It seems Kiir feared Machar's ambition for power. Regardless, democracy and progress have seemed frighteningly at risk for the past few days.
The 25,000 strong "White Army" militia of young Nuer men has been marching on the capital, intent on overthowing Kiir. This would cause a civil war based on ethnicity, very possibly another Syria. However, Nuer community leaders in the Jonglei state emerged today and somehow spoke to this army (impressive in and of itself), and convinced them all to go home. Imminent civil war, and potential civilian massacres have been temporarily avoided. I don't know how long this lasts, but this seems to me like the type of heroism that should be admired! I cannot remember anything else ever happening like this.
