More than a decade after 22 Jump Street was released, news broke that Phil Lord and Chris Miller would return to the 21 Jump Street franchise with the long-awaited third film. Stars Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube are all expected to reprise their roles. However, to the shock of many, the sequel is not titled 23 Jump Street. Instead, it jumps forward to 24 Jump Street.
Speaking with Empire, Phil Lord revealed why the film is skipping over 23 Jump Street. "We developed a 23 Jump Street, and I think this is just out of respect for that [laughs]. We're calling this 24, out of respect for the dead." Phil Lord and Chris Miller are serving as executive producers on 24 Jump Street after having directed the previous installments.
