Any fans of this here? I just finished chapter 3 after it's received so much praised and I can already tell that this is going to be a great manga. I tried it once before but I feel like I rushed too much into the chapters to get a good grip on it but now I've learned my lesson.

So should I expect great things from this story?

IMO it is one of the greatest manga i ve ever read
a thriller full of mystery and suspense

Naoki Urasawa is a f***n genius :D
HE has written the story so well that you will not be able to stop reading

PS: also recommend you read MONSTER (the other master piece of Naoki Urasawa)

Yeah I'm on chapter 7 so far. And I actually have read part of Monster (which gave me extra reason to read this manga) but I think 20th CB will trump it!

Yeah I'm sure TU already has told you enough but 20th CB is godly. Honestly it's my favorite series of all time. I'm a big fanboy of stuff like Gurren Lagann, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Code Geass, but this is the only series that I actually liked more than even those. 20th CB is just fantastic. The character development never fails and the cliffhangers are insane but epic. In my opinion it's definitely superior to Monster, but that doesn't make Monster a bad manga by any means. Monster is excellent too, although I feel like in 20th CB the characters as a whole are a lot more likeable. With Monster you've got the major cast and a few other characters but everyone else is unimportant after a few chapters, in 20th CB almost everyone plays a role somehow, you just don't know until you see for yourself.

Well TU was only one of the many

But yes I'm on chapter 20 and it's just getting better. "The plot thickens"

I think I'll have to try Monster again after I finish this. Felt like I rushed too many chapters of Monster because of other things going on. A lot of people seem to like Monster better but so far I think reigns supreme. I heard Johan is supposed to be pretty baws by the end of it (I'm really only a good 30-35 chapters into Monster) but I'm weary that it'll surpass this Friend guy. Good stuff man

Hmm I heard about 20th Century Boy, I might gives this a try in the near future.
Definitely seems to be worth it thus far. Depends on the type of genre you're into I guess but I'd pretty much recommend this to anybody. What I personally do for series like this is jot down notes on something like notepad to keep track of names and key events.

I see I see. And I am as well. xD

Yeah things keep getting better and better. Just wait until you get to Friend's backstory, oh man. That's gonna throw you for a whirl.

And yeah personally I just can't understand how Monster is better. Well admittedly a re-read is necessary cause I haven't read either of the two in a very long time but something about 20th CB just strikes more chords with me. It's longer so there's more time for development and the plot is just captivating. I guess Monster is more about the conventional mystery/thriller thing with a bit of action and a more prominent moral question throughout. That gives it something awesome in its own right but I just didn't like it as much. As for Johan, he does get a significant deal of development and it's fascinating to see. In pure psychological development, Johan does beat Friend out. For whatever reason though I ultimately preferred Friend, can't even explain why but maybe it'll be clearer upon that re-read.

I saw the mask at around chapter 25 and thought I just got trolled @ Friend's identity rofl

Well chapter 31 now. I'm still not gonna forget about that ghost... waiting for that in later chapters. The cult is so weird too x_x makes you wonder if they're truly brainwashed. Reminds me of the cult of the watchers from Drakengard a bit xd What's this 21st Century Boys thing I keep seeing under google searches? There's not a sequel or anything right?

Rofl nice. And yeah dude things get more and more intense. 21st CB is a sequel, though it's very short. It's a 2-volume entry that ties up a few loose ends from 20th since there are quite a few things that are left unexplained from the conclusion of 20th so definitely read that. Some of the explanations are a bit.......weird though. Your note-taking is definitely gonna help you here since the major reveal of 21st made absolutely no sense to me, but you'll see how that goes once you get there. More importantly enjoy 20th, 20th is the meat of the story and 21st, while nice, isn't nearly as fascinating.

Just went through another time-skip >_> let's see how this goes. Man I'm really only 20% of the way done? Wonder how it's going to continue for another 200 chapters. But yeah it's still awesome so far. Obviously the biggest mystery is still Friend. Wonder if there's going to be an equally intimidating mystery at the series progresses ._. Maybe I'll make a recommendation thread for it once I'm done

@Chapter 51 Oh man...

Ah so that's where you are. Dude the explanations for the Bloody New Year's Eve.....oh man that will throw you for a whirl. It's like a Higurashi answer arc type of thing lol.

As for Friend, they reveal who he is a little over halfway into the manga. But oh man, if you think that's all this manga has waiting for you, just wait and see how epic this gets.........things change a crapload throughout the story but it never loses it awesomeness.

Currently on chapter 75 holy **** things are tensing up even though it's just a flash back lol Can't think of many possibilities for Friend unless it's somebody that has yet to be introduced but even then i wouldn't mind it too much

But yeah I do recommend this to pretty much everyone

Yeah your mind will definitely be blown once you learn the truth. Just, oh man, 20th Century Boys threw me for a whirl more than any other series I've encountered has. The mysteries keep on coming and I personally felt it never got boring. Even across the timeskips and whatnot it never loses momentum like a lot of other series do so that's even more props to it.

I've reached volume 3! :0 :D
It took me way more (Gosh, drakengard, you're reading it too quick again). It's an awesome story...I'm running the risk of reading 50 chapters in a row like I did with Pluto :| Better not xd
On a side note: You guys are troll....I had the feeling I wouldn't be able to participate in this thread because ya two were too far in the story xd

Whooo!
Finally finished the story, not that I told any of you of that, just wanted it said! ;D
Great story indeed, with those damnable cliff-hangers! :T_T:
Reading it all, I've been on a trip back to discovering Rock 'n' Roll all over again~

xD Awesome. Everyone in this thread seems to have read it faster than me:
I'm just starting volume 15 XD Just after the odd stuff happening in the Science Room -Poor Donkey :'(- It was weird. Honestly, I feel like the explanation will be indeed mad...Yamane was such a weird boy...even more than Sadakiyo. Kouzimi always makes me laugh xD She's a boss ;D Got close to Friend's ID faster than any of our dear Kenji faction (LOL). Not to mention she survived twice to the Bonus stage. HAhaha At some point, she won't show up again :( And I'm going to miss her...
Anyway, what's your fav character?
I'm loving Kanna a lot. She has a lot of spirit, and it's incredible alike to Kenji (who's one of my favs -and you're right about the rock, but in my case it's like having a clear guide xD Since I never really payed attention to the chronology of the bands).
For some reason, I'm very attached to the legendary detective Cho-san (the first one, not Chouno Xd Chocho XD)---
And I have Mon-chan in mind too. That of not being completely devoted is something that happens to me a lot...it was very touching, his story and how he behave.
