1.) Why did Orochimaru's interest in immortality lead him to the Sharingan? Why in the Akatsuki was he interested in Itachi's immortality than Sasori or Hidan. Learning Hidan's forbidden jutsu would've granted him actual, clean immortality right off the bat- making sacrifices would've fitting in perfectly with his lifestyle with literally 100s of test subjects.

2.) How did the other villages not make it through to the Chunnin Exams? I watched the preliminary fight the other day and the only characters that made it through to the second round were two troops of Sound Ninja, 1 team of Sand ninja and four teams of Leaf ninja. We know the Cloud, Stone and Mist are insanely powerful villages and in the next one in the Shippuden Filler there are plenty of Cloud/Mist/Rain teams. And in Boruto, just one generation later- other teams are absolutely tearing up the Chunnin Exams.

Question 1: Not sure if its filler, but he saw Itachi use his sharingan in training and became obssesed with the sharingan, The real question is why didn't he go for any other Uchiha? There were other Uchiha's around when his obssesion started.

Question 2: The other main villages did not participate in the chinin exams, it was leaf, sand and other fodder villages (that does not justify no one else passing tho)

Right? Tobi had a literal collection of sharingans, a giant wall and Orochimaru set his sights on the hardest one first? He worked w/ Danzo and must have known the Sharingan was endangered. Hell, why did he even have to seduce kid Sasuke anyway when that was the easiest sharingan to steal ever? Hell, even Kakashi back in the Chunnin Exams wasn't on his level.

Regardless of a strange specific addiction with the Sharingan- his main motive is and always was immortality. Sasori or Hidan (to a lesser extent) should've intrigued him much much more.

You're sure of this? But they participated in the filler Sand Chunnin Exams...what was the reason for this when the point was to promote 'good will between nations...between...like, 2 actual nations?

Sharingan>Rinnegan (which can actually help one cheat death)>Kaguya who actually is immortal.

Orochimaru probably chose this way because it coincides with his dream of learning everything

Refuse to believe PTS orochimaru could read the Uchiha tablet and/or have any comprehension of BZ's masterplan. Hell, Orochimaru seemed clueless to the idea of Ootsutski and Rikudou powers when they were tearing up the battlefield- only really commented on Spiral Zetsu. The extent of his knowledge in that situation was knowing who was in Guruguru.

There's many reasons as to why Oro wanted the Sharingan but the fact that he couldn't even GET one, nevermind master it and turn it into something rivalling the Rinnegan indicates otherwise. Hidan's immortality offered a pretty non-risk, easy way to achieve never dying. No interest at all.

@Bold, nope, but I don't remember seeing any known headband in the chunin exams arc, in retrospect the ninja ranking system was not well done. while searching for proof I stumbled on this reddit article

Kabuto stated that him and Orochimaru had guessed at what the tablet said, and they were right apparently. :wut:

Why do you think that Kabuto stated that he was the closest to the So6P :bdpf:

I did recall something like this! I had imagined it was just bc the Sage was a known figure and this was tied into Kabuto's god delusion. Can you link & prove it?
