I think he primarily drew backgrounds. His art will evolve as he gets more comfortable.

It is such a shit design and looks like a bad fanfic. It's like the creator realizes how lame Boruto is and tries to overcompensate by making him look really cool in his mind. It's like he already looks a lot like Naruto and is his son. Then let's give him an outfit that looks like something Sasuke would where complete with a sword. To top it off let's give him a scar and transplanted eye just like Kakashi. Only this time he will have a byakugan instead of a sharingan. Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi were the most popular characters from the original series so they must have thought making Boruto look like all of them was cool but to me it just looks tacky and something done to cover up how boring of a main character he is.
