Kids these days need to be more strong, mentally. They should do more sport, interact a lot more to only face those situations.
No offenses, but the kid sounds like an "wannabe only mama's child". But I do agree, those bullies need to stop as well!

Anyway, parents are at fault here.
How are the parents at fault? They didn't see anything wrong with their son liking the cartoon and they probably never thought the bullying would drive him to suicide. They obviously care about him immensely and if I bet if they had known about this before his attempt, they would have gotten him the help he needed.

Holy shit. The kid was the kid was 11 and people here are calling him weak minded. Jeez. He's 11! Now, I have no idea how a kid can concept the idea of suicide, but still, this is just horrible. A massive overreaction on his part, yeah, but he was just a kid. This is just a big shame. Just let people like what they like. I hope the kid heals. It's a far stretch, but I hope he does.

On one hand, you should expect to be teased if you watch a little girl's show. On the other hand, only garbage would continue bulling a kid in the hospital. If that's what's happening, the bulling was severe and the ones that did so should be kicked out of whatever school they go to.

this is how bullies should be punished
You must be registered for see images
LMFAO xD xD

On a serious note though...I feel really bad for the kid. While he could've tried to resist the bullying (as some of you are saying) that's easier said than done u_u he definitely went a bit overkill on this but it's extremely sad to see that it had to come to that. And the fact that kids still bully him even while he is near death is disgusting. The fact that I'm even related to them by species makes me feel so...ugh. They need to know pain. Nagato could slap some sense into them u_u

I don't really have enough information to go off of, because this article is pretty vague on Michaels home life, but it seems to me that this is actually a case of bad parenting.

Why should Michael have resorted to something as permanent as ending his life? What brought him to this conclusion? Where were his support outlets?

Michael should have been taught to defend himself. The mindset that fighting is bad comes from home, it's something silly that it being taught to kids, and is creating self esteem-less zombies.

Kids need to be taught to defend themselves. I'm not saying that all issues should be solved with violence, but a kid should have the confidence to know that if his back is against the wall (figuratively, and literally) they have a means of defending themselves.

This is sad :( .
I don't get bulled but my friends make fun of me coz I still watch anime. But I don't give a fuq.
That kid should atleast stand for him self. There might be other problems betwen him and parents otherwise he atleast would have told his parents. But he was just 11 and most of kids don't think of results before taking decision in this age but Sucide that was 1 big mistake U_U

Good God, he's 11, not 5.

There are kids younger than 11 that wouldn't take this from their peers in such a feeble manner.

Man, I am sickened by responses from people here for a kid who is just 11. Calling the kid weak by sitting behind a computer screen is hardly a decent stance. As for the incidents, I have no idea why this is even allowed? Schools should have zero-tolerance stringent rules in place for such behaviour. So that any kid who bullies anyone and dampens any kid's self-esteem is chugged out. When will the policy makers take bullying seriously?

Shame that we lose more and more children because of stuff like this. The parents chose the most rational step in this situation imho.

Everyone can't fight their own battle, because veryone isn't strong enough. Things build up, and you just can't fight anymore. Like say, depression, grief etc. You start thinking your not fit for this world, and you give up on life and your existence. He was a weak kid, but it's completely understandable why.

Hopefully he gets better and recovers soon.
Finally, someone who understands
+rep to you man

He's 11, so I'm not totally surprised he attempted suicide. Honestly, I'd be surprised if anyone below... say 7, maybe 9? Attempted suicide. I certainly wouldn't expect it from a kid who is only like 4. My point is, people in general seem to be at their most vulnerable to such things at ages like these. They're certainly old enough to understand death, and young enough to make ridiculously silly decisions. If a kid is like 4 or 5, he maaay not quite fully understand death, or even know what suicide is, but he's young enough to make irrational decisions regardless. If someone is like 20 years old, of course he's going to understand death and suicide, and it would be expected of him 'to be stronger than that'. However, young adults or preteens, is somewhat 'in the middle'. That kinda makes it worse, since they're old enough to understand suicide, and young enough to succumb to their emotional problems.

I also noticed, as in a lot of cases, it just says "teasing" or "bullying". We will never actually know what they said or did to him (probably not anytime soon). That's very vague. And of course, if EVERY kid in his classes was antagonizing him, it's not like that isn't a pain in the ass.

"I have to bear these friggin insults for 8 hours, Monday-Friday?"

It's not like school can't be hectic enough. Now of course, I don't know if he ever told his teachers, or if his teachers even tried to help. I know of a few adults have the mentality of "Kids will tease, it's normal."

Hell, I know of several adults who gets annoyed and thinks "This kid whines too much, about every single thing..."

Imagine that kid telling on them 2-5 times a day, I know what is expected of teachers, but in reality, humans gets annoyed easily. And who would expect the kid was going to get pushed to the edge and try to kill himself? Imagine how the kid may have felt for continuously bugging his teachers. I loathe feeling like a bother, as if I'm pestering someone. One ugly look (like rolling the eyes or something) could have completely discouraged the kid from seeking help from his teachers.

I don't know the situation with his parents. I don't know if they were the kind that would have a talk with him, encouraging him to keep strong, and would naively think that was enough, or if he even tried to seek help from his parents. I don't know if they talked to his teachers once, twice, maybe thrice; but then the kid just gave up.

I don't really know much about the case to make big assertions. Of course, it would've been nice if he could have shrugged it off. All I know is that a kid tried to commit suicide, failed, and now have another chance at life.

You're right that also happens from time to time , but if someone is not smart enough to deal with bullies , at least you gotta speak up ..or this things end up happening .
If you speak up things might get even worse.. some bullies tend to go the extremes to torment someone if they get snitched on
