An 11-year-old boy is in the hospital after trying to commit suicide -- the victim of bullying at school.

It's not a new problem in North Carolina, but this puts a new face on the age-old problem as Michael Morones remains in WakeMed with a tube down his throat and potentially life-long brain damage.

Michael tried to kill himself, apparently because he could no longer take the torrent of bullying he was facing at school.

"He's the kid that never walks. He dances everywhere," said Michael's mother, Tiffany Morones-Suttle. "He's so full of energy. He's always on the move. Michael's parents say he was that way even in the face of daunting bullying at school. Michael likes the cartoon "My Little Pony." It turns out, the cartoon has a growing, and perhaps unlikely fan club -- men and boys known as "Bronies."

Because of that, Michael was teased so much that ten days ago he decided to do something about it.

"He hung himself off the side of the bunk bed, off the railing," said Tiffany.

His parents got him to the hospital, but the damage had already been done. Oxygen to his brain had been cut off.

"We won't know for months how much is going to heal," said Tiffany. "It could even be years before we find out what potential for healing he has."

You might think Michael's parents would be furious with the kids who were bullying their son, but then that wouldn't be in keeping with the show at the center of what they were teasing him about.

"It teaches the most basic moral values to a lot of complex thoughts," said Michael's step-father, Shannon Suttle.

Fans of the show, like Michael, try to live the motto that friendship is magic.

"I've heard a lot of people say you need to go after bullies and hold them responsible," said Tiffany. "But you know, I don't think that's what Mike would want. I would rather teach people how to do right than turn around than punish, because punishment doesn't always work."

Michael has gotten support from as far away as Ireland, and a lot of money, which is used for Michael's care, but also to start a nonprofit to help with bullying.

As Michael's father tells it. It's more than their goal. It's quickly become their mission.

Incredibly, the bullying hasn't stopped. Michael's parents say just Sunday night on a generally supportive website, a few people left very hurtful comments.

They say that just strengthens their resolve to fight bullying, and makes that mission that much more clear.

Bullying prevention expert Nancy Mullin said Michael's age is right in the prime age for suicides.

"Eleven to 15-year-old boys are very much at risk for thinking about suicide when they're perceived as being gay," said Mullin.

She credits Michael's parents with supporting his interest rather than reinforcing shameful feelings.

"The missing piece here is what the school is doing about this," said Mullin.

Mullin says while North Carolina is one of 49 states with bullying prevention laws not enough is being done to implement programs.

Meanwhile, Michael is scheduled to have a tracheotomy Tuesday.
Much wow, one of the most known reasons for children suicide attempts. Bullies, just stop.
The boy has my deepest of sympathies.

Sensitive kid i must say these days but it's not as easy to just jump off and tell our guardians about being bullied by a bunch of chubs who could also threaten the little guy about killing/raping/torturing him if he tells on them, sound preposterous but trust me... shit happens

You're right that also happens from time to time , but if someone is not smart enough to deal with bullies , at least you gotta speak up ..or this things end up happening .

Kids these days need to be more strong, mentally. They should do more sport, interact a lot more to only face those situations.
No offenses, but the kid sounds like an "wannabe only mama's child". But I do agree, those bullies need to stop as well!

Anyway, parents are at fault here.

I agree, though i'll say it depends mostly upon parents or parenting, some kids are frightened from their strict parents and try to avoid telling them about their life problems and end up giving up to stress and sadly, life. Some parents avoid such problems and shake it off as 'kid's fun' as i recall 3 similar cases which concluded upon saying the parent had a big hand in his child's death; avoiding their child's life problems resulting the boy drowning himself in a bathtub, very sad. In the end, why not just stop bullying. Bullying is at fortunate for nothing, some bullies think they're just having a little fun and nothings wrong with having a little fun but sometime the fun they are indulging in is the pain and stress the victim is facing on. #endbullying

Lol that kid should've watched Naruto instead of some wannabe crap, that way he should've learned what to do when life becomes hell, yeah you know where I am going, lol.

On serious note though, thatkid was an idiot. I mean,if life has become that much hell that it's not even worth living, then why be afraid to go out like a bang. Why not just try to fight the bullies, with your entire force, before going becoming a lump of protein. That kid was a scaredy cat, nothing more. So the hell with the sympathy shit,he is not worth it.

The quote below v
The weak relationship between a parent and a child can be the main factor of his weakness. It's evident.
A parents support is a core foundation of a child's sense of independence and strength.
I concur, sometimes the slightest of blatant conversations between parents/guardians can be the worst core for this type of situation(s) to occur.

He got teased for watching my little ponies? Well anyways Bazz I know you're a powerpuff girl fan and I'm gonna come over to your residence with a baseball bat and tie you to a chair and proceed to impale you with the said weapon exceeding speeds of 400 km/h, err.

Dance of the death, kaboom! Solo'd!

But seriously, you've gotta be strong willed, don't let the bullies get to you that easily. People talk, make fun, hurt you, but in the end, their attempts don't matter at all. That's just a part of it, remain strong, kids. Not as easy as it sounds? Then give yourself enough ability and strenght to do so. You won't stand there if someone you loved is getting bullied, you've gotta be strong enough to stand up and speak out. Might get a punch in your face at first, but they'll know you're not an easy target.

Where were the parents when this was happening? What did they do to help him at that time? Come on son. Yup, they should've been there. The fact they weren't makes them quite responsible.

Plz, coming from a B&M fanboy, don't make me come over equipped with countless B&M volumes before proceeding to tie you onto a chair and break every single volume, the tragedy would lead you to you mentally instability leading to retardation symptoms = douche bag.

I'm not saing that he deservs it but a normal person could see that s"it coming miles away.
Bullies should be stoped at all costs but it seems that you cant make any profit out of stoping bullies.

Shame that we lose more and more children because of stuff like this. The parents chose the most rational step in this situation imho.

Everyone can't fight their own battle, because veryone isn't strong enough. Things build up, and you just can't fight anymore. Like say, depression, grief etc. You start thinking your not fit for this world, and you give up on life and your existence. He was a weak kid, but it's completely understandable why.

Hopefully he gets better and recovers soon.

Why should the kid need to do anything? Its not his fault people made him feel like death was the way out.
people dont need to bully.
They are the ones causing his death, if he had died idont care about the court it would have been their fault. they wouldd have been the murdurers.
