The tree is actually never said to consume human soul/body
The tree start consume human after they have inherit a chakra inside them
As a 'GOD' tree, it not need to suck anything.
The tree it what it self a 'GOD' tree which mean it already all having
Yes the god tree is not actually an omnipotent being but the tree is belong to true god of Naruto
I create my own theory what is actually a God Tree
God tree in early existence of Naruto world history is the creator of that world
After it create the world, human is created and send by god to inhabit that world.
But the god tree is not involve with human directly but it involve with nature more
It created flora and fauna and anything Natural.
That why we hear in manga about natural energy/chakra
The secret inside god tree is that it keeping a reserve of chakra inside Chakra fruit, where the chakra is collected for thousand of years from nature energy/chakra.
The Chakra fruit is not to be touch by mere ordinary human because it contain pure raw chakra.
The cycle like normal tree. where in some point of time the fruit will become seed and grow new tree.
And the fruit is actually not to be consume.
But it didn't happen because one being from far outside Naruto world eat the fruit and grow pure chakra inside her
