Author's Note:
Naruto rolled around in his bed, being irritated by the persistent knock on the door. His blankets tangled around him like a large snake. One wrong move and he's beat... Too late. He smashed his head off the ground hastily waking him up.
Naruto: Shut up! I'll be there in a minute!
He struggled with the blanket until he was free, then he got up from the ground, slowly dragging his half asleep body to the door. He answered it and saw that it was Sasuke standing there with his usual sad-faced expression on.
Naruto: What do you want?
Sasuke ignored him and walked past Naruto's grumpy face and into his house.
Naruto: Oi! Why are you here? You of all people.
Sasuke: I'm still looking for the reason and I thought I'd find it here
Naruto looked at him with his normal pissed off face.
Naruto: You're looking for your reason... Go find it somewhere else!
Sasuke: No.
Sasuke proceeds into Naruto's kitchen and looks around with an unhappy face. He picks up an empty milk carton and peered into a dirty bowl of unfinished cereal.
Sasuke: You need to clean up.
Naruto walked into the kitchen with his hands behind his head, trying to ignore Sasuke's arrogance as best he can. He walked over to a chair, pulled it out from under the table making as much noise as possible. He plastered himself to the chair and watched for a moment as Sasuke began to clean up.
Naruto: What the hell are you doing?
Sasuke: Fixing your mess as always.
Naruto: What did you say?
Sasuke: I said I always clean up your mess. Don't get mad, I'm just telling the truth and you know it.
His tone had gone from completely monotone and emotionless to arrogant and overconfident. Naruto didn't like this at all but instead of lashing out he suddenly had this massive urge to clean up his kitchen. Their eyes both met from across the kitchen and their determination was represented by the huge flames manifesting in their eyes. In an instant Naruto leaped off his chair and went for the cupboard under the sink. Sasuke was one step ahead and bumped him out of the way using Naruto's unbalanced position against him. Sasuke turned the tap and started washing whatever was in the sink. Naruto jumped up from the ground and sped around the kitchen collecting all of the rubbish that was scattered around the place. After a long session of cleaning they both ended up on either side of the table staring into each other's eyes again.
Sasuke: I bet your room is as bad as this.
Naruto: ....
The two boys charged for the door and so ensued the great cleaning session of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. The two boys were left lying down on the spotless floor having a well deserved rest. Naruto's feet pointing toward the opposite end of the corridor and Sasuke's feet pointing toward the other end. The top's of their heads were almost touching each other.
Naruto: I finished first.
Sasuke: No you didn't, I did.
Naruto: No, I did.
Sasuke: No, I did.
Naruto: This could go on forever
Sasuke: Yeah, let's stop.
Naruto: * I totally finished cleaning first *
Sasuke: * I obviously finished first *
The two boy's closed their eyes, grinned and let out a sigh of relief.
Sasuke: Naruto?
Naruto: Yeah, Sasuke
Sasuke: I found the reason as to why I'm here
Naruto: What is it?
Sasuke: To...
Sasuke back flipped over Naruto and landed over him staring down at him with the face of someone with a purpose. The fire had left his eyes and all Naruto could see beginning to manifest was an Eternal Mangekeyo Sharingan in those intimidating eyes of his. The scene began to change, the clean and spotless floor turned into a rocky environment which Naruto was stuck in, the sky was cloudy and dark. The two boys were now grown up, at the age of sixteen. Naruto was wrecked and completely worn out, he couldn't even move a muscle and he couldn't stop what Sasuke was about to do.
Sasuke: ...To kill you
A chidori began to manifest in Sasuke's right hand. He took off the Leaf Village head band he was wearing and dropped it on Naruto's chest. He then plunged the chidori into Naruto's gut as the scene ended with a bright flash an older Naruto awoke from his bed, clutching his side and breathing heavily. Hinata turned on the bedside lamp and put her arm around Naruto.
Hinata: Did you have a bad dream?
Naruto: Yeah the same one... I miss him, Hinata.
Hinata: I know you do, Naruto.
After a minute of silence passed and Naruto's breathing calmed down Hinata said.
Hinata: Come on, Naruto, the finals of the chunin exams are tomorrow you need to be up early to prepare. Let's just get some sleep okay?
Naruto: Alright. Thank you, Hinata.
Both of them lay down on their bed again, Hinata turned the lamp off and cuddled up with Naruto trying her best to comfort him like she always does.

At the beginning of this chapter Naruto and Sasuke are both kids at Academy age and as the chapter progresses they get older. I wanted to show how their friendship progressed in this chapter.
Also, this is fourteen years after the fourth shinobi world war and since that war ended they have enjoyed times of peace... but not for long.
