For RPG's I'd suggest Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age Origins, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, or even Fable.
For FPS, If you have 360, go with Halo Reach or Gears of War(TPS though)
If you have PS3, go with Resistance or Killzone.
