Gaara has two very notable traits in his appearance: firstly, he has tanuki-like black eye rings around his eyes, having them since his birth. Secondly, he carved the kanji "love" on the left side of his forehead.
Also having green eyes and fair skin with, spiky, auburn hair which is sometimes depicted as red. He is often seen wearing full-length dark trousers, with a pair of laces on each leg, respectively a few inches below the waist and the knees, a long-sleeved crimson coat with flaring hemlines on the front and the back, a grey holster vest held in place by a single strap over his left shoulder and by two buckled belts which he uses to carry his gourd. He also wears another pair of casually worn belts around his waist.

Description: At first glance when not in use, the Tessaiga appears to be nothing more than a battered katana with a heavily chipped and rusted blade with the hilt's fabric tearing away. When wielded by Gaara the blade transforms. When transformed, the blade turns into an over-sized dog's fang.
Abilities:
*Fūton | Wind Style: Wind Scar - The user swings Tessaiga in a downward slash, sending an A-rank gust of wind capable of blowing away and slicing anything in its path up to mid-range.
*Fūton | Wind Style: Backlash Wave - The user swings Tessaiga in a diagonal ark, causing the blade to release a 12foot wave in front of them strong enough to block jutsus or throw away anything within short-range.
Restrictions:
*No other fūton jutsu can be used in the same turn as ether Wind Scar or Backlash Wave.
*Wind Scar and Backlash Wave cannot be used in the same turn.
*No S ranked fūton jutsu can be used in the turn following the use of Wind Scar or Backlash Wave.

Gaara was targeted by Akatsuki, who sought to extract Shukaku from within him. Gaara confronted and held his own against Deidara, crushing his left arm, and had him on the run for most of the battle, but his inevitable duty to protect Sunagakure was taken advantage of by Deidara. Left unconscious, Gaara was taken to Akatsuki's hideout.
Although Team Kakashi did their best to save Gaara, they did not arrive in time to stop Akatsuki's extraction of Shukaku, which resulted in Gaara's death. However, Chiyo resurrected Gaara with the help of Naruto's chakra using her life-restoring technique...
