What's most distinct about her is that she wears what most people would call a pirate outfit. A long black jacket with a golden trim, a white cravat around her neck and a blue miniskirt. Most of the time she's also seen wearing a large hat bearing a symbol on it.

Marika can be expressed as somewhat of a ditz; someone who takes time to grasp the current situation and often confused about what's happening. Despite this, she's very strategical and adamant in her decisions. She's capable of sticking to a decision no matter what happens and isn't much swayed by other people's opinions. Background History
Marika was born in Kusagakure, which at the time seemed more advanced that other countries, although no one knows why. She wasn't born into a war-torn land or anything like that, but just simple Kusagakure. Her father was always out on missions and such which required him to be out for long periods at a time, seeing as he specialized in infiltration and so on. Her mother used to comply with him on missions such as that, but since the birth of Marika, she hasn't been doing that.
For a long time, Marika had believed that her father had died when she was young and didn't much understand the situation. Her mother, Ririka didn't really hide much from her, but didn't tell her anything either; she wanted to wait until she had finished with everything such as studies, and when she was older to know the truth.
One day when Marika was working after her studies (she works in a cafe) some people came in and spoke to her. These were people who were associated with her deceased father who decided to speak to her, just to get a grasp on who she was and so on. Later on these pepole would pay her and her mother a visit, only to tell her that her father had passed away not a long time ago, but only recently. They had suspected that it were food poisoning which killed him, rather than some sort of assassination. This lead to another detail, which their group of shinobi have to use as a tradition. Only the heir to their captain may take over the group; in this case, his daughter Marika.
This would cause Marika to go into some sort of thought of what to do in taking over in her father's stead. Ever since she heard of this, people have been scoping her out through coverted means, such as infiltration and so on. Seeing as her father's group, otherwise known as "Bentenmaru" was quite well known and to have been passed down through generations, people would be curious about who the new head of the group would be.
To help try and mould the decision, Ririka would teach Marika how to use their techniques which her and her father were quite well versed in using, ink techniques. This took place one night before her small team which she was training with would venture into another country for a journey and to practice even further. Her mother was shown to be powerful enough in ink techniques to destroy even small rocks with them and she planned on helping her learn them and be capable of becoming a captain of a highly acclaimed ninja squad.
The time of the trip was up. She was accompanied by a few other people, including her senpai who would overlook and make sure nothing severely bad happens. Although she wasn't the captain of the trip, she was a big part in it, keeping watch over everything that would happen at night. The trip would consist of travelling through Kusagakure, through the outskirts of Konohagakure, Kumogakure and other several villages and coming back.
All was going smoothly until Marika was staying up with another person in the group with her one night. She could sense another person who was there, who she thought was waiting for the right time to attack. So together she and her squad made a plan for how to counter him, which really involved being idiotic and not knowing about anything which was happening. Some sort of trickery and strategy to counter him. They would plan ahead of what to do, but moreso about how to act stupid.
The night had came for the "ambush" to occur. Seeming idiotic, the squad would act like they didn't know anything about it, but when the attack happened, they knew to be prepared. Although when the plan didn't work as intended, Marika came up with the cunning plan to use reflectors which they all carried in conjunction with the "Lightning Flash Illusion Pillar" technique to not only blind this ninja, but quite greatly as well like it were a giant spotlight. He wasn't succumbed to death, but he was severely blinded for a few days, and the squad managed to escape.
After their return to Kusagakure, Marika met with her mother which would seem like a touching reunion, but the trip made her mind in which she would become the captain of Bentenmaru. Nowadays she spends time running around with her crew all around the world, which could be described as acts of piracy.

Being a genjutsu specialist she's quite prominent in using it, and thus genjutsu used by her act much faster than usual and are tougher to break out of. A simple cut on the arm wouldn't be strong enough to break out of genjutsu created by her.

Marika is capable of sensing chakra so well that she can sense it from long distances, up to 2km away. On top of this activating her sensing takes no more than a mere second, allowing her to perform other jutsu almost instantaneously after using it.
At all times Marika is carrying with her a standard cutlass on her left hip just in case the need to use it arises.
