In Naruto the character Rock Lee definitely is based on the Martial Artist Bruce Lee.

Rock Lee is one of the only characters that can specializes in Taijutsu or Martial Arts, and his speed and insane training regimen is also based on Bruce Lee!

The 8 Gates is definitely somewhat based on the Mysterious power and Speed Bruce Lee displayed in movies and in real demonstrations. Its said that Bruce used Qigong to make himself stronger and faster. Also, his weightlifting program and exercise routine made him faster and incredibly stronger than most.

And Interestingly enough, Rock Lee's injury is based on Bruce Lee's injury too. Rock lee messed up his spine to the point where he couldn't even walk and this comes from bruce lee's problem too.

Bruce injured himself while training and he severely messed up his back/spine to the point where he could barely move. So he made a program to help him to train once more.

Ever since he got injured he's been been exiled. He made some major moves here and there but he wasn't doing much after that.

Yes, and I feel like he should have been given more screen time. Thinking about it, like Guy, he's one of the few characters that started from nothing. He had no KKG, Tail beasts, or any special abilities, nor was he from special clan.

Yeah he had none of those techniques but he has hands!!! One of the strongest shinobi in the leaf village.
