Salt

Movie Title: Salt

Distributed by: Columbia Pictures (US)
Sony Pictures (UK)

Release Date: July 23, 2010

Running Time: 104 minutes

Country: United States

Language(s): English, Russian

Budget: $110 million

Box Office: $293,503,354

Summary
Salt is a 2010 American action thriller spy film directed by Phillip Noyce, written by Kurt Wimmer, and starring Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Daniel Olbrychski, August Diehl and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Jolie plays Evelyn Salt who is accused of being a Russian sleeper agent and goes on the run to try to clear her name.

Critical Review

It is an action thriller and it delivers on both subjects. There is plenty of action, but not all of it was great. Yes it was entertaining but during some of the action sequences, it just felt too unrealistic. I know it is a movie and I know that it is not supposed to be real... but at points where you could see that the main character would not survive, it ruined it a little bit. Also, there was a scene where there was a huge car chase and a car crashes off of a bridge... someone climbs out of the car, undoes handcuffs and casually walks away without any of the 40 strong crowd even looking at her, let alone stop her.But the surprise factor was there... and it was done very well. The casting was brilliant... I can't fault anyone for their performances. Anjelina Jolie is the main character. I don't mind her, but I don't see her as the best actress in Hollywood like a lot of people do. She has made some fantastic movies though... and this in my opinion is one of her best. But I have to say I think the performance of the movie has to go to Liev Schreiber. This is by far the best performance he has done yet that I have seen. I mainly know him from the Scream movies which I love, and I have seen him in other things too... but he did a fantastic job in Salt. The main thing I was disappointed with was the ending... I was comfortable watching this movie and really enjoying it... but it felt like it was unfinished. Honestly, the action was about to carry on, then the credits started to role. I was so confused and gutted. Thankfully, there are rumours of a Salt 2 on the way... hopefully they will finish the story this time. All in all I loved this film. Yes there were things I was not too impressed with, but I was hooked from the beginning.

Lincoln Heights

Series name: Lincoln Heights

Genre: Drama/Family

Created by: Seth Freeman

Starring: Russell Hornsby, Erica Hubbard, Nikki Micheaux, Rhyon Nicole Brown, Mishon Ratliff, Robert Adamson, Michael Reilly Burke, Chadwick Boseman, and Alice Greczyn.

Country of Orgin: United States

Year of serialization: January 8, 2007 –November 9, 2009

No. of season(s): 4

No. of episode(s): 43

Current status: Finished

Language(s): English

producer(s): Dayna Lynne North, Kevin Inch, Anthony Sparks, and John F. Perry

Running time: approx. 42-45 minutes

Moment of reviewing: Season 4 ep 43.

Summary
Lincoln Heights is an American family drama television series about Eddie Sutton, a Mission Vista police officer who moves his family back to his old neighborhood, Lincoln Heights, to start a new life and to help out his old neighborhood. It is a dangerous place to raise a family, and through the many trials the family goes through, they soon learn that settling in is not as easy as it seems. While Officer Sutton struggles to cope with every day life as a street cop in Los Angeles, his kids try to fit in at their new schools and with their new neighbors.

Critical Review

I decided to give "Lincoln Heights" a try because if ABC Family would air as good a show like "Kyle XY", then just maybe this show would have high standards as well. After watching a few episodes I believe that was when I was hooked. This show is a strong sound show. It really faces a lot of tough and serious situations that real families today deal with. The show does not sugar coat the problems, just deals with them honestly. I like that. We need more shows that show strong marriages and families. Fathers and mothers that are real, that actually care about their children's well-beings and personal lives. Plus parents who care about their children's future and who are setting the standard and example for all of the life learning lessons. As a police officer the father faces real dangers which can sometimes affect the family; these things in life are presented very well on this show. The show is not about ***, which today most shows seem to be trying to sell it, thus ruining the whole show. We need real shows like "Lincoln Heights". America needs a change in shows that are viewed; for the future of our children and the future generations. Shows like this is a nice place to start.

Summary: Marvel's The Avengers (classified under the name Marvel Avengers Assemble in the UK and Ireland), or simply The Avengers, is a 2012 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.1 It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård, and Samuel L. Jackson. In the film, Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor to form a team that must stop Thor's brother Loki from subjugating Earth.

Critical Review: Like every Marvel movie, it is placed after the events of Captain America, and Iron Man 2. The movie was well balanced; the action and the dialogues. The villain is pretty much evil, while the Avengers keep fighting among one another. The writer, Whedon, has a great view on every character. For any Marvel Fan, this is Christmas. The movie is worth it. Trust me. Lol

Moment of reviewing: Season 1-4

Summary

Rick Grimes is a former Sheriff's deputy who has been in a coma for several months after being shot while on duty. When he wakes, he discovers that the world has been taken over by zombies, and that he seems to be the only person still alive. After returning home to discover his wife and son missing, he heads for Atlanta to search for his family. Narrowly escaping death at the hands of the zombies on arrival in Atlanta, he is aided by another survivor Glenn who takes Rick to a camp outside the town. There Rick finds his wife Lori and son Carl, along with his partner/best friend Shane and a small group of survivors who struggle to fend off the zombie hordes; as well as competing with other survivor groups who are prepared to do whatever it takes to survive.

Critical Review

The Walking Dead is a very gut chilling and plot twisting T.V show. Just when you think a character is safe, they could die off in the next second. It's such an enjoyable T.V show because it seems like reality, with the way the zombies look real and the emotion the characters show. They even have a "School for Zombies" In which the people who star as zombies, go to learn how to limp like a zombie, moan like one and far more. Despite being a horror film, this show can, and will, bring tears to your eyes. Although, there are plenty of moments in which you will be laughing. From the first episode to the current one, this show does not fail to make you flinch. The character development is excellent and will have you looking back and saying, "is this guy even the same person!?" This series harbors many epic, spine chilling moments. This isn't just your "28 days later" zombie flick. This is far more hardcore with moments you wont forget. You'll be sitting on the edge of your chair throughout the show.

Series name: Prison Break

Genre: Action, Crime, Drama

Created by: Fox

Starring: Dominic Purcell, Wentworth Miller, Amaury Nolasco

Country of Orgin: United States

Year of serialization: 2005

No. of season(s): 4

No. of episode(s): 81

Current status: Finished (in 2009)

Language(s): English, some spanish, some indian, some chinese.

Producer(s): Marty Adelstein, Neal H. Moritz, Dawn Parouse, Brett Ratner, Paul Scheuring, Matt Olmstead, Kevin Hooks, Michael Pavone

Running time: 43 Minutes

Moment of reviewing: Season 4, End.

Series Summary: Prison Break follows two brothers, Michael Scoffield - a brilliant structural engineer, and Lincoln Burrows - a muscle-headed thug who isn't afraid to throw down if it means protecting the ones he loves. Lincoln is suddenly framed for the murder of the Vice President of the United States' brother. The organization behind the framing is representative of the corruption in the United States Government. After learning about his brother's innocence, Michael Scoffield vows to break his brother out of Fox River Maximum Security Prison... by getting himself locked up right along side with Lincoln.

Critical Review: This show does a very good job of dramatizing Illuminati-style secret government organizations. It also paints a very clear picture of the desperation many prisoners face when locked up like animals. The desire for freedom is the main theme here. Freedom; not only for oneself, but for one's families and loved ones as well.

Many of the show's plot twists come in an unexpected manner. This is a show that truly gets better as the seasons go on, with everything reaching a large climax at the end of the show. If you are looking for a show to captivate you and keep you on the edge of your seat, Prison Break is a good bet.

Critical Review: Frozen, created two more disney princesses, actually the other one is a queen, Elsa and Anna. It is very well written, and is well animated. It won two Oscars, and the music made every Disney Fan go berserk. Overall, it is a great family movie, best for children, better for siblings, good for adults.

Moment of reviewing: Completed 24: Live Another Day (Season 9), final season.

Series Summary: 24 is a serial drama which stars Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer, focusing on the efforts of the fictional Counter Terrorist Unit, and their efforts to protect America from terrorism plots. Each episode typically follows Bauer, officials in the U.S. government, and the conspirators behind the events of the day, often simultaneously. The episodes take place over the course of one hour, depicting events as they happen, in real time. To emphasize the real-world flow of events, a clock is prominently displayed on-screen during the show, and there is a regular use of split screens, a technique used to depict multiple scenes occurring at the same time.

Critical Review: First of all, I don't know why it took me this long to watch it; it's a great show, I like the idea behind the show that each episode is an hour in real time is different; I like fast paced shows, with good plot and good action. There are a few things I had issues with like just things that wouldn't be possible; jumping out of a car rolling down the hill and landing like 50 meters away from it, it then explodes, just small things. But overall, so far for what I have watched, it awesome. I love it.

There are some sad episodes in it also, I may have shed a manly tear more then once. D:

Now with finishing the final season just now, that season was just wow. That last episode was something else, so sad. But just so good, but no the whole season was great, a great way to end it; almost so that it somewhat keeps it open for another possible season or movie. But that's me hoping.

Critical Review
Arrow is an non-stop action packed T.V show. The overall plot of the story is what reels everyone in at first and the several new shocking details that are revealed in almost every episode keeps you wanting more. Billionaire playboy Oliver Queen has lived a life of luxury oblivious to all the murder, deceit, and treachery that is going on around him in his home town. But after a violent shipwreck and being stranded on an island for 5 years, his life is not the same. Most episodes deal with smaller villains that connect to the overall main conflict. The character development for all the characters is phenomenal and they advance at a steady pace. With the majority of it being action filled, there are small moments filled with comedy that help lighten the mood. You will be on the edge of your seat every episode making speculations and guesses about who did what or how they did it. And when you think you have it figured out, guess what? You don't! There are twists and turns when least expected. This show will never feel "boring". The fight scenes are also amazing. The effects and props are done very well and one could say they are real. Even though this show is based off a comic book universe, it has no problem portraying it self in "reality" and does not come off as a cheap portrayal of the Green Arrow.

Summary: How to Train Your Dragon 2 is a 2014 American 3D computer-animated action fantasy film produced by DreamWorks Animation[4] and distributed by 20th Century Fox, loosely based on the book series of the same name by Cressida Cowell. It is the sequel to the 2010 computer-animated film How to Train Your Dragon and the second in the trilogy.] The film is written and directed by Dean DeBlois, and stars the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Hiccup then "discovers a larger conflict brewing between humans and dragons and he finds himself at the center of it".

Critical Review: As a great HTTYD fan, I'd say this movie is great. The movie proceeded slow, though it was worth it. Well animated, nicely written, and the voices fits perfectly. Overall, I think this movie is great, with its own cons, but with more pros.

The universe is random. It’s not inevitable. It’s simple chaos. It’s subatomic particles in endless, aimless collision. That’s what science teaches us, but what is this saying? What is it telling us, when on the very night that this man’s daughter dies, it’s me who’s having a drink with him? How can that be random?
-Walter White, Breaking Bad.
What is Breaking bad? Breaking bad isn't series it is 'phenomena'. It is something which can't be described using mere words. It has almost everything in it, it has action, it has drama, it has one of the most interesting plots, some awesome side characters, entertainment and perhaps one of the most well written characters in TV history, Walter White. On top of that we have few clap worthy dialogues, simply wonderful acting and really notable work on creative department. Another best feature about this series is character development, every character from Gustavo Fring to Marie Schrader and from Todd Alquist to Hector Salamanca are well written, have good development and are well performed. Not only on plot front, but this series also stands out when it comes to science department. Even though all these things are completely flawless, Walter White rightfully takes away the attention, mostly due to his eye-catching journey from being the geeky Walter White to the mastermind 'Heisenberg'. Many say that modern day television drama is all about spending a lot of money, even if Breaking Bad has few really spectacular episodes including 'Ozymandias'(with 10/10 overall rating on imDb), One minute, ABQ, it also has introspective and bizarre episodes like 'Fly'. To sum it up, watch Breaking Bad because it is flawless and simply on entirely different level of entertainment. The only thing you need is patience and a lot of hard disk(xD) if you want to watch it in HD. If you have both, then what are you waiting for? Summary:

The story is set in Tolkien's fantasy world Middle Earth. The story follows the journey of The One Ring from when it was first discovered by Bilbo Baggins and identified by Gandalf to it's destruction in the fires of Mount Doom. The Dark Lord Sauron forged the One Ring in the fires of Orodruin during the Second Age to enlarge his power and gain control over the 19 other rings of power. The last alliance of Elves and Men waged war on Sauron and Isildur, son of Elendil, cut the Ring from Sauron's hand and took it for himself. But the Ring betrayed him and after Isildur's death Gollum found the Ring, The Ring passed out of all knowledge until Bilbo, a Hobbit, found it and later hands it down to his heir Frodo. Gandalf later identifies the Ring to be The One Ring and tells Frodo to leave his home country The Shire because Sauron is already searching for it. Frodo sets on his journey together with Sam, Pippin and Merry.

In Bree they meet Aragorn, a mysterious ranger, later revealed to be the heir to the throne of Gondor and the king of men. Aragorn leads them to Rivendell while they are being pursued by the Nazgul, the black riders.

In Rivendell the Council Of Elrond decides to send a small team on a quest to destroy the ring in Orodruin. The Fellowship Of The Ring consists of Gandalf, Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Pippin, Merry, Boromir, Legolas and Gimli. In the Mines of Moria they lose Gandalf when he falls off the Bridge of Khazad Dum. Now led by Aragorn, the 8 companions continue their journey and enter Lothlorien. After they journey the great river until they encounter an army of Orcs. Saruman's army wages war on Rohan and Rohan, with the reinforcements brought by Gandalf, wins the battle of the Helm's Deep.

Frodo and Sam meet Faramir, the brother of Boromir who brings them to Osgiliath, once the ancient capital of Gondor. After they once again set of for Mordor.

Merry and Pippin together with Treebeard assemble an army of Ents and conquer Isengard, the fortress of Saruman. In the movie Saruman dies once Gandalf and the company from Rohan arrives at Isengard. They learn that the final assault by Mordor will be on Minas Tirith the greatest city and fortress of men. Gandalf and Pippin ride for the city. Later king Theoden rides with his army as reinforcements towards Minas Tirith.

The great battle of the Pelennor Fields is won after the reinforcements from Rohan and reinforcements led by Aragorn arrive. After the war they decide to lead a company into Mordor to draw the enemy away and allow Frodo and Sam a way through mordor. During the battle at the Black Gates Frodo and Sam finally reach Orodruin and destroy the One Ring.

Aragorn is later crowned king and weds Arwen, daughter of Elrond. Frodo is awarded the honor to leave Middle Earth with the Elves and sat sail from the Grey Heavens towards the West.

Critical Review:

The Lord Of The Rings is considered one of the greater movie projects ever undertaken. It has a place among the timeless classics of cinema history and is arguably the greatest epic ever put to film. It is a journey, an adventure, and what a journey it is, Peter Jackson adapted Tolkien's book extremely well all while he was pioneering new technology and standard for the entire industry. The movie has a great cast, the performances are fantastic, most notably from Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen, Andy Serkis and Cristopher Lee. Ian McKellen delivered a perfect performance for the wizard with some great quotable lines. Sean Astin delivers some trully fantastic emotional scenes. Andy Serkis solidifies his part as the go-to guy for motion capture and his performance truly paints Gollum as the most tragic figure in the story, he adds depth to the character and brilliantly depicts the inner conflict raging inside Gollum. Viggo makes the hero of the story, the heroic and in many ways idealized king yet he never loses touch with his Strider side. Christopher Lee's thundering voice made him perfect for his role as Saruman.

The movie was meant to be an epic and it meets and surpasses most expectations, it is epic and grand in every aspect. Most of the movie is filmed on location in New Zealand, the scenery and shots are absolutely incredible and it truly feels like a grand journey and it almost creates the character of Middle Earth (ME is very well described in the book). Peter Jackson traveled the country to truly find memorable locations that alone can stun any viewer.

The action is very well done, the battles are realistic and well choreographed. One notable scene is the uninterrupted scene form the end of the first movie. It also has two of the greatest battles ever put on film Helm's Deep and Minas Tirith. It delivers some great swordsmanship, war scenes, great cavalry charges, …

But action is not the meat of the movies. The most important is the story, it is based on one of the greatest books ever written, the book that defined high fantasy, the history created by Tolkien only furthers the depth of the movie. There are many details that can only be appreciated by the fans of the book, though it takes nothing away for the fans who have not read the book. The story itself is a fantasy classic and it is translated into movie quite well. While the story deviates from the book at times it does not really affect the main plot, nor does it make the movie any less special to a Tolkien fanboy (me).

The movie was filmed with the help of many models and paintings (most drawn by Alan Lee and John Howe). The blend of real location, costumes, amazing drawings, incredible models with CG makes almost every shot seem real. Even though the CG is over a decade old the movie feels much more real than almost every CG heavy movie released today. What further adds realism to the movie is arguably the greatest collection of movie props ever created (they literally had ppl who made chain mail out of rings every day for years), every item in the movie is individually designed and than made, sometimes in many scales and many are never even seen (patters inside the armor that can never even be seen). Some of the designs have become truly iconic and and influenced many artists. The trilogy truly is epic, not even in story but also in it's production.

The writers delivered some very emotional scenes, both sad and epic. Some scenes literally make your spine shiver. They also delivered some great speeches and fantastic lines. The story flows nicely and it does a great job at progressing the journey at a pace that delivers the different plotlines in detail yet does not feel rushed. The movie have the right amount of intensity when needed and feel relaxed at times when the story warrants it.

The music is fantastic, Howard Shore captures the feel of Middle Earth, of fantasy. It has an iconic status. It ranges from relaxing to full blown epic war music. Music makes a movie and Howard Shore delivered.

This story was thought to be unfilmable, but PJ succeeded, not only that, he created one of the truly greatest movies.

Country: New Zealand, USA, UK

Summary:

Bilbo and the dwarves go on a quest to reclaim Erebor which was taken from the dwarves by the Dragon Smaug.

Critical Review:

The Hobbit was supposed to be the epic prequel to the LoTR trilogy.

The two movies released atm are enjoyable and compared to the average pish posh that comes out of Hollywood today the are quite good. Some of the acting i fantastic, especially by Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman.

The Gollum scene was one of the greatest I have ever seen in a movie, the acting between Freeman and Serkis was absolutely enthralling and the mood it set was a perfect depiction of the scene from the book. It is by far the best part of the two movies.

It is not an adventure movie or an epic, it is an action movie, and it's good at being an action movie. But The Hobbit is NOT an action story so on to the negatives:

What was for me the most anticipated movie since the LOTR trilogy has 2 years ago shown to be a massive let down. I have since figured it out what bothered me so much: Peter Jackson filmed the LoTR movies as a huge Tolkien fan and with only that in mind, LoTR brought out the best of everyone working on it and nothing was good enough until it was perfect. Back then, PJ made a trilogy that would make professor Tolkien proud.

With the Hobbit PJ is still a fan of Tolkien but either he or the ones higher up are still bigger fans of money. Instead of amazing storytelling, epic scenes and battles, sensational acting and tear-jerking speeches the new PJ movies are deeply corrupted by todays movie formulas. With the first movie there were a few good things but it did't feel as an adventure it was just one "dangerous situation" after another and almost no story at all. The second movie was even worse, instead of what is supposed to be a story based adventure it became a clusterf??? of whirling and twisting battles that were supposed to "look good" (by todays hollywood standards) but just end up making only half a sense. Only a very small percentage of the movie is actually based on the books and the stories added from the appendices are spinned out of control. With the LOTR movies PJ stayed true to Tolkiens story but in the new Hobbit he butchered his work to implement the, today already, cliche aspects of hollywood movies, most notable of which is a romance story between an original character elf and a dwarf (those who know Tolkiens works know that that is enough to make the professor roll around in his grave). The amount of filler that contradicts Tolkien is, frankly, sad.

If you look the LOTR and Hobbit movies and compare them you can see how thw statement "just because you can use CG it does not mean you should use it" is true, Laketown looks completely fake and unrealistic as opposed to Edoras who was built and shot on location (and that was now a13 years ago). The orcs look like they were painted on paper and had oils spilled over them. Dol Guldur looks like it had been done by a child and, once again, Gandalf was made to look like a weakling he is not. The battles made no sense and were way to exaggerated and whirly, not to mention they took way too much of the time and ended up shoving out the story completely. I would list the comedy as a plus as it was actually funnier than most mainstream comedies at times (although that amounts to the abysmal quality of todays comedy standards rather than quality of the Hobbit) but it has no place in a movie based on a Tolkien work. Another positive could have been the brilliant acting of the cast but they simply have not enough screen time to shine, which is because of the overlong battles. The only redeeming qualities were the references to previous films and the brilliant acting of sir Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman.

Lord Of The Rings looks like it was filmed in the real world, The Hobbit looks like it was filmed in a small box with the set drawn onto the walls.

I feel sorry that PJ sold out. The Hobbit is definitely an enjoyable movie but in no way, shape or form is it worthy to be called the prequel tot he Lord Of The Rings. In that aspect it is the most disappointing movie I have ever seen.

I had expected The Hobbit movies to be to the LoTR movies what the Hobbit book is to the LoTR book. But it failed. Qnd please do not come at me with the "you cant make a film completely after a book" because its useless, a movie can be different than the book and yet stay true to the spirit of the story. PJ proved that with LoTR but than destroyed it and turned it to a mess equivalent of an icecream truck being hit with a bullet train (compared to LOTR).

Series name: The Big Bang Theory

Genre: Comedy

Created by: Chuck Lorre

Starring: Jim Parsons, Johnny Galcki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Melissa Rauch, Mayim Bialik

Country of Orgin: USA

Year of serialization: 2007

No. of season(s): 7

No. of episode(s): 183

Current status: Ongoing

Language(s): English

Running time: 22 min

Moment of reviewing: Season 7 Episode 24

Series Summary:

The Big bang Theory follows a group of socially inept geeks in their daily lives: theoretical physicist Sheldon, experimental physicist Lenard, astrophysicist Raj and engineer/astronaut Howard. The role of ''the girl'' is filled by Penny, a ''normal'' simple girl from nebraska and later 2 more women join the main cast Amy (a neurobiologist) and Bernadette (molecular biologist). Hilarity ensues ...

Critical Review:

It uses a very simple yet very interesting template, 4 geeks, let's make them do funny stuff. It is a very fun and entertaining show and I recommend it to everyone.

The story captures the nerd style and makes it, for lack of a better word, cool. It is a simple comedy but it has some depth to it and some real character development (sheldon, howard).

it does, what it's supposed to do, good, it's funny and it has lovable characters. The dialogue is quite witty (for a sitcom) though not always factually correct.

Perhaps part of it's success is owed to the fact that many ppl can identify with some of the characters as they are often portrait as underdogs and everyone has at least once felt that way, not to mention today's youth is more and more geek centric.

It at times depicts social ineptitude quite well and it brings forth some touching moments but in many of those times they simply go one step too far (make a joke at the end, or simply make it too corny)

As most simple series it relies on the viewers to get attached to the characters. It's good at what it is and for a guilty pleasure of mine it gets a good rating.

Complete, Seasons 1-9

Series Summary:
The show revolved around 4 friends and their day to day lives. Set predominantly in an apartment block in Manhattan's Upper West Side in New York City, the show features a handful of Jerry's friends and acquaintances, particularly best friend George Costanza (Jason Alexander), former girlfriend Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), and neighbor across the hall Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards).

Critical Review:
1.Rarer have been shows which had a cultural, social impact as profound as Seinfeld, during its nine year run the show rewrote rules of comedy genre and has influenced many of the shows till date.

2.The show revolved around four friends and their trivial and banal day to day experiences.

Jerry Seinfeld the protagonist, straight man, voice of reason in the group,
a figure who is "able to observe the chaos around him but not always be a part of it.
Jerry is a "minor celebrity" stand-up comedian, his
*the center of a world visited by his eccentric friends. Plot lines often involve Jerry's romantic relationships

George Costanza, Jerry's best friend and a neurotic, self-loathing man who is dominated by his parents.
He is portrayed as a loser who is insecure about his capabilities. He complains and lies about his profession, relationships and most everything else, which usually creates trouble for him later

Cosmo Kramer, Kramer is Jerry's "wacky neighbor". His trademarks include his upright hairstyle and vintage wardrobe, he was an eccentric and a quirky character who almost always comes as cartoon like.

Elaine Benes, Elaine is Jerry's ex-girlfriend. She is attractive and assertive, while also being playful, selfish and self-righteous. She sometimes has a tendency to be too honest with people, which often gets her into trouble, her misadventures with her boyfriends was the forefront of many story lines.

It include a plethora of memorable minor characters who left a deep mark like Newman ( a postal official who was tenant in Jerry's building and his arch nemesis),
Frank and Estelle Costanza (George's eccentric, obnoxious parents), Soup Nazi, Morty and Helen Seinfeld, Uncle Leo.

3.This show was totally unique. Nothing has been done like it before, or since (with the possible exception of the Simpsons, which does mimic some of the "nothing" plots a little). While it was about nothing, it was really about everything--but the little things that no one thinks about, like giving your bank code to your fiancé. I also liked how this show was the last of the "non-fashion" shows.
Seinfeld was an important show because it was the first sitcom to successfully break away from a form of idealism. Usually shows revolve around a central theme for example Two and a half men revolves around a dysfunctional relationships, families and contrasting lives of two brothers, 2 broke girls revolve around 2 girls trying to achieve their goals and their misadventures on the path to success.
Seinfeld was none of that.
And this was something that I didn't realize until I watched the show’s finale. Until the entire cast was arrested, tried, and sent to jail, it had never occurred to me that these were terrible people. They were the protagonists and, because my perspective had been shaped by TV characterized by idealistic characters, the protagonists could never be bad people.
But, they were. And I’ll talk about that more in a bit.
Here’s the thing about*Seinfeld: no episode has a moral. It never has a serious moment , never goes out of its way to teach its audience anything. Unlike all of the other TV shows, Seinfeld never had a “very special episode” or really dealt with important issues of the day. Rather, Seinfeld reflected (probably more accurately than many of us would like to admit) the realities of the average person .
While all other forms of media—films, TV, music—were trying to push the issues of toleration and pluralism, Seinfeld was a breath of fresh air that demonstrated the fact that there were people who simply did not care.
It’s clear that Seinfeld struck a chord in mainstream audience and that was because it was the only thing that wasn't trying to say anything. It had no other agenda than to make people laugh at the (often absurdly inflated) banalities of life.

4. The show had such a such a cultural impact that no show before it and after it had
Festivus, a well-celebrated parody has become a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 that serves as an alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season and Nihilism the notion that reality is ultimately meaningless and that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value were popularized by it.

Many terms were coined, popularized, or re-popularized in the series' run and have become part of popular culture. Notable catchphrases include "Yada, yada, yada", "No soup for you", "These pretzels are making me thirsty" and "Not that there's anything wrong with that".

As a body, the lexicon of Seinfeldian code words and recurring phrases that evolved around particular episodes is referred to as Seinlanguage, the title of Jerry Seinfeld's best-selling book on humor.

5. Seinfeld has been recognised for making an impact, particularly on American society, as it introduced such phrases as “shrinkage”, “spongeworthy” and, “master of your domain” into the national lexicon. Both Seinfeld and David have commented upon this saying that “the show probably has had a genuine impact on contemporary language and the evolution of the sitcom form”.

6. It's ending created a void in the comedy genre and it is missed till date both by fans and critics alike.

In the end I have to say besides the aforementioned points the show worked because it was relatable to many, and it's masterful exploration of minutiae, it's clever insights into the mundane, overlooked yet ever present details of the human life and it's chemistry of characters.

Rating 10/10
★★★★★★★★★★
If I could give it more I would surely have given more. It is truly an iconic masterclass and one should totally see it at least once, if not more in their life time.

Series Summary:
The spin off of David Kelly successful Legal Drama Practice, Boston Legal is Legal Dramedy, the show follows the exploits of the Boston firm "Crane, Pool and Schmidt" and it's Quirky characters.
The show revolves around Alan Shore and Denny Crane, who are extra-ordinary attorneys. Alan (played by James Spader) is a attorney with a strong ethical sense but will attain any means, even unethical ones to obtain a judgement.
Denny (played by William Shatner) is a brilliant but ageing attorney who has never lost a case in court. The show also consists of plethora of other characters who leave deap impressions.

Critical Review:
1. Boston legal is one of the best courtroom dramas ever produced and if go to the genre Legal Dramedy( legal drama+ comedy), it is the best ever produced, period.
The method by which the show is written and produced makes devoid of pretentiousness and contrivance. The show was brilliant, cerebral, funny and evoked emotions and thoughts like no other legal drama.

2.The show brilliantly uses comedy to enhance the legal part and the end result is a product which is emphatic and engaging. Unlike Kelly's Practice(which in it's own rights was a brilliant legal drama), Boston legal never looses steam, probably because of crisp writing, imaginative use of comedy, engaging situations and excellent performances by the cast.

3. Reasons to watch Boston Legal:-

a. Premise- The show involves quirky lawyers in an unconventional law firm who take many conventional and unconventional cases. These cases sometimes are of social, moral importance and are bound to touch your heart. The moment the shows sets in you will feel as if in a different situation because even though the cases are same as the real world, the firm and it's characters are just extraordinary and unconventional, that being said the premise is bound to evoke emotions and a sense of endearment. Vicissitude of the firm are fun to watch.

b. Acting and Characters- This point can't be emphasised enough by me, we have all seen boring, soulless legal dramas, the reason contrived character with which we cannot connect, but this not the problem with Boston Legal, which to my mind has the best characters among other legal dramas. These characters are endearing and will get you hooked to them in an instant.

James Spader plays Alan Shore with such brilliance that it will leave you bewildered by his acting skill, as for his character he is an endearing one, which will amaze you, captivate you and sometimes even shock you. He is a attorney with a strong sense of justice and use any means to attain them, he has a strong sense of right and wrong and will fight ferociously for what he thinks is right. He has good and honest heart (which he tries hard to conceal)

William Shatner plays Denny Crane (The man, the myth, the legend.), an ageing attorney who never has lost a case in his life, he is womanizer, he considers himself a legend and loves to say his own name to "sign" his verbal utterances. Shatner brings him to life and beautifully portrays each and every aspect of Denny Crane his hubris, his insecurities, his sense of friendship etc.

These both actors play the role with such finesse and representing so many subtle nuances that you can't even imagine someone else playing it, the bring out the triumphs, joys, insecurities of the characters to life.

Even the minor/ secondary characters are brilliant, Christian Clemenson who plays Jerry 'hands' Espensen, brings out beautifully trials and tribulations of a man suffering from Asperger's syndrome and his motivating journey of conquering his disease, his friendship with Alan is also a spotlight piece. Candice Bergen in her role of Shirley Schmidt is awesome, he role of mother hen, her relationship with Denny, Alan, Carl Sack were beautiful. Other memorable characters include by the book yet fatherly to all attorney Paul Lewiston, hopelessly shy and introverted Clarence Bell, who cross dresses most famously as opera, talented and moralistic young British attorney Katie Lloyd, former marine and an attorney Brad Chase and many many more.

The judges too were brilliant my favourite was Henry Gibson.

c. Courtroom scenes- The problem today with legal dramas is lack of courtroom scenes(like suits) or they take the too lightly (like Franklin and Bash). In Boston Legal there probably was no episode where a courtroom scene was not present. Also there was a perfect balance of comedy with seriousness to make it look belivable. The courtroom scenes represented the tensions, workings and the nuances of a courtroom brilliantly.

d. Closings- Well closings were just a work of art, they were packed with emotions, were evocative, heart warming and inspiring especially Alan's.
Few of my favourite ones are-
- Euthanasia for Shirley's father
- Alan's arguing against the death penalty in front of the supreme court
- Alan's primal speech

e. Thought provoking- The cases revolved around prevalent social problems, which will provoke your thoughts and evoke actions even if you don't agree with them

f. Balcony scenes-At times these were the only scenes worth watching. The balcony overlooking Boston was a haven, a sanctuary where Denny and Alan could reflect upon their day, their lives and their friendship. With a big stogie in one hand and a tumbler of scotch in the other, these men explored their vulnerabilities, their dreams and their failings as men. Their societal evaluations come to light is another common theme at the show – to have Shore and Crane talking on a balcony, drinking scotch and smoking a cigar together. He will often talk about what the episode’s interactions have gotten him to think about. One of the charms in these instances is that Shore and Crane are so very far apart on the political spectrum, so they disagree with each other’s conclusions, while still able to remain amicable with one-another.

g. Relationship between Denny and Alan- These two overtly heterosexual men loved each other deeply. They shared their innermost secrets, fears and passions; nothing was off-limits. They helped one another through a number of personal crisis. They differed on some key political views but they never allowed those differences to come between them. In the end they always remained better than friends, better than brothers, better than lovers. On the final episode they were actually married by Supreme Court Justice Scalia in a real "jump the shark" moment which they referred to themselves. I don't know if there is another bonding between two men in the history of television, gay or straight, that runs this deep, this powerful. I know I don't have that kind of a person in my life. I know of few that can testify that they do. Their friendship transcended boundaries they would fight for each other, defend each other and stick with each other. Their chemistry was one of the most important aspect of the series.

In the end I would like to say that this is one of the few show I felt sad when it ended, it was an absolutely beautiful journey and if you intend to take it you will not regret a moment of it.

Boston Legal is about morality. What does it mean to be a moral person. Seemingly immoral and inappropriate behaviour becomes a tool to help find what is moral and appropriate. This means the show is sometimes utterly irreverent about sensitive issues, but despite how it may look, never truly flippant. In fact, many times the show manages to create truly touching and poignant moments

The show will thoroughly entertain you both casually as well as on a cerebral level. Please do watch it. Verisimilitude, the word used by guardian to explain the show totally fits it.

An exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution

Critical Review:

I had people recommend this to me over and over saying how brilliant it is and how you actually have to think about the movie. After the movie I was disappointed because it did not live up so I started thinking I missed out some things so I went to the web and read tons of explanations about the movie and watched it again later. As it turns out I didn't miss anything at all (other than stuff you wouldn't pick up in any movie when you're watching them for the first time). This movie is not complicated but it is beautifully written (the dialogue) and the music compliments it nicely but it is not a masterpiece, far from it.

It is not a movie that is hard to understand, if people have trouble with it it because so much is going on so fast

They do a great job at connecting the stories and it flows very nicely. It also get's the message across but that is only one part of the movie (the movie as a whole), the other part, well, the individual parts, the stories in time, only 2 I thought were good (the one about the composers and the comedy one, but that is hardly enough to make something a masterpiece), the others were very lackluster and at best mediocre, the sci fi one just looked like a bad sci fi movie that made me wanna kill myself before the future starts, the Hawaii one was just plain weird (that future also sucks), the adventure one (ont he ship) was a very simple story hardly worth a special mention, the San Francisco one looked like a failed attempt at a Pulp Fiction, etc...

I honestly just think people elevate it to a masterpiece it because they feel smart watching it.

It's a good movie don't get me wrong but it's not the second coming of The Godfather (or Vertigo or ...) as some would have you believe

PS: by far the best part of the movie was Jim Broadband he was bloody fantastic, he is definitely one of my favorite actors

just a suggestion: wouldn't a review corner work better as a section so we can post threads because noone will read them if we post them in an old thread even if it is sticky
