Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Review
Finally!!! A new Storm game to buy!!! Not a Beta release of a sequel but an actual sequel!!! YEESSSHHHH!!! Now first thing to state is that Spidey boy had a lot of hype for this game. I mean I was repeatedly watching the trailers until the one with the Kaguya tease at the end. After that one I just quit looking up Storm 4 on YouTube because if you look at anything that pops up it’s going to ruin the first play through feel. Which I bet most of you don’t have because you were watching those gameplay clips like it was nothing smh, your choice though.
I’m sure most of you know that this is not the fourth game in the series but the sixth. Before Storm 4 we had the following games. (If you don’t care about my opinion on that shit then keep scrollin loves.)
Storm 1 – Covered the series from the start to Sasuke Retrieval Or Nah Arc. To be completely honest I probably played this a bit too late in my gaming history because I got the game just a few months back and man it looked great but the story mode… dear Lord… what in the hell was that shit. The wall running is great the overall gameplay is easy as hell which made it just a bore to play. Then the Boss battles were a damn joke too and for some reason they decided to pay homage to it in Storm 4… but I’ll talk about that later…. Back to the story mode it was just so bare bones and cheaply done. Lazy much? I understand you look prettier than Broken Bond on Xbox 360 but can you use that to your advantage? NO! This game was a 5/10 for me. It had great elements but IMO this is Bandai Namco’s Uncharted 1.
Storm 2 – A step forwards and backwards in many ways. They really did great on the Story Mode this time around and really cemented what to expect from a Storm game. It had excellent cinematic and every battle felt like it was tore straight from the manga and it even had originality in ways the anime should really learn from. (Though the damage has already been done so that’s a pointless statement.) If I’m not mistaken there a lot of those mission quests in the adventure part of this game but to be completely honest it isn’t even CLOSE to being bad as that damn Mission XP bullshit that was in Storm 1 (Skipped that shit and got a save file from online to play the main story fights. #****MissionXP) this one was the Uncharted 3 of the series. Give it a 7 out of 10 though it’s not even close to Uncharted 2 in fun elements. Also because of the garbage online community and ability to attack spam.
Storm Generations – If you know me. If you really know me. You know how I feel about this shit. **** this game. It is nothing but a waste of time and does not signify a 60 hell even a 30 dollar purchase. Go buy Storm 2 and sit that ass down boi. My ass traded in Storm 2 for this. I remember sitting their looking at the disc and getting pissed off at myself. How can you do this to a kid b. 2/10 And the reason it doesn’t have a 1 is because of Chakra Cloak Naruto.
Storm 3 – The wait for this thing… (Asura’s Wrath you suck.) Was so damn long… Not as long as that Storm 4 wait but it was long… and hard. (Pause) Gruesome but it had finally came. (Pause Again…) It was so damn amazing too. Oh the Story Mode was so damn packed full of awesomeness and the cut scenes where so amazing too. It’s like they just knew how to put everything together back then. They improved the battle system from Storm to so no more sub spam. They created even more places for you to explore in the run around and do random bs mode and you could collect these ton ton or spirit shards and face the evil versions of characters and then get all the trophies by killing them *****s online until you get that PLATINUM!!! Just an improvement in every way in my opinion. The only thing I really disliked was the online still had Deidara spamming ass and they didn’t let you have every character you beat in the Story Mode unlock in the Free Battle/Online Modes. That is how the series has always worked and because of a shady business tactic they leave out a few so they can make money for Storm Revolutions and Storm 4’s release. I give this one a 8.5/10 and I’m trying my hardest to be unbiased on this one but I just loved Storm 3 so much and put over 200 hours into the damn game. This is definitely the Uncharted 2 of the series. What did you all think of Storm 3? Please answer below because I actually want to know what people thought on this one more so than the later lol
Storm Generations 2 – Revolution - If you know me… you know I despise this game almost as much as Generations. It’s just like Generations except they give you some pretty good filler as an Espadas Mode which is why I’m not as mad at this one. But hey. It’s still Filler and subpar new content. 4/10

Storm 4
Story Mode – Going to start off to what matters the most to me. Reason being it’s that because of Storm 2 and 3’s reputation they have cemented the cinematic cell shaded characters fighting through the story in an epic fashion and Storm 4 does this in a slightly different approach that in my honest opinion does more to hurt the Storm experience than complement it. Now it starts off with a nice monologue that leads you to a Hashi vs Madara battle that you played in the demo. It’s rather distracting though when the narrator is talking while the scroll is over the battle, the sound effects are playing as well for some dumb design choice. Sadly that’s one of the many bad design decision this Storm makes.
So then it takes you to a timeline that leads you to a chapter preview for the coming events. Now at this point I have seen nothing but cell shaded cinematic so I was soooo hype for the breaking mask battle that I knew would come next. So once I clicked on that story and saw screenshots of the God awful anime… I just knew this would be the way they played this thing out until the end. Instead of spending dev time on creating cell shaded cinematic instead of posting screenshots like a lazy ass you spend it on other things like well… I’ll get to that later.
Aside from the God awful anime screenshots that are just flooded throughout this thing the story mode really hit the heart from the start with the next part of the story being the Obito Uchiha one. Oh man it was such a great experience I played through it twice before even moving on to the next point. Too bad instead of showing us a badass animation of Obito breaking that boulder we had to look at a lame ass screenshot. *sigh* These thing really take away from the experience but hey. (You’re going to hear me complain about these screenshots a lot so get comfortable.) Pretty slick how they didn't show these in the trailers either lol Shika's review made me think about how shady that was. **** move tbh. We needed more wall running as well there was a lot less of it than planned I think because at the beginning you think it's going to happen in various points. I only got to wall run twice. During Obito fight and during Naruto vs Sasuke.
So everything is going good throughout the story when I start to notice something during the cinematics during the Ten Tails fight. (When you are watching everything play out not when you are qte fighting) There is a humongous drop in graphics quality. Now I don’t know if this is just for the PS4 version but GOOD GOD it turns from beautiful to a youtube vid of the gameplay. I mean maybe I’m a resolution ***** but when it come to things like this they need to be looking even better than the qte fights because these are pre recorded man. They could be shot in 4k and downscaled to play for consoles if they wanted to but instead they give us this blurry shit. Now if you want to see an example of this watch the Guy fight cinematic versus the qte. It’s like night and day.
Moving on to the amazing boss battles the first one I want to speak on is the Ten Tails boss battle…. The first one. *Sigh* So basically you have to shoot at this guys eyes until… you know what I’m not even going to try to explain this. You shoot it with your chakra machine gun until it chases after you and then you can finally get your awesome qte sequence. Like seriously… this is 2016… don’t bring back those 10 year old brain dead zombie cod playing boss battles. It’s like I’m an idiot and they think I can’t make it through The Witcher 3 on easy. Yeezus Christ I thank you for only allowing this to happen once throughout the game because if this happened again smh.

Shut the hell up I’m doing my review dammit!! Now forward to the other boss battles. Now they all play out pretty well after the TenTails one. And the Obito one oh yes that’s a boss battle right there. I mean it’s pretty easy to figure out his pattern of attacks but man it’s a breath of fresh air to see that you’re having to play the hp survival game throughout these boss battles lol I found myself actually surprised they upped the difficulty from that last boss battle on Storm 3. Hold up what the hell is…. No it’s… it’s another damn chakra machine gun battle?!?!?!?! DAMMIT. So yea sadly there are two of these in the game so this along with the damn screenshots from the anime has made this not as good of a story mode as Storm 3. Maybe it’s because in that one you traveled and it immersed you more so it’s kind of hard to compare the two, but still they could have made it a bit open world with you moving through the battlefield to replenish your health and talk with other members of the army to see how they are holding up. I don’t man just something to keep it on level with the quality of the past shit.
The story. Ah the story. I know most of everyone doesn’t enjoy the drawn out war arc in the manga but in the story mode it flows together more better but with getting rid of some of the gore they ruined a few parts that are very crucial.
- Obito in blood. It isn’t red blood but its ink so it’s not as moving as it could have been. Still an amzing fight nonetheless.
- Naruto and Sasuke fights ending. They got their arms cut off bruh. That was a mouth open gasping moment that wasn’t as effective to people who only played the series through the games. (Yea I know people who do that…)
- Obito and Kakashi poking each other. What the hell man you know how hyped up this was after the anime version? It was still a good battle but man it could have been just as good with qte’s in the middle of the match as your player moved and did their qte moves the scenes could have changed to the past Kakashi and Obito that way. Though not every director can be a Tarintino…
Also let’s talk about this ending man WTF How the hell is anyone supposed to know who Boruto is or even his name. They didn’t even show his mom or his classmates or even mutter Sarada’s name. Good grief what a horrible ending that led to a scroll closing!? You could have shown that damn kyubi pic before you clased that scroll you ******* of a narrator.
Overall the story was good but not living up to the Storm 3’s IMO. If they had focused more on this and not on the next topic of discussion it might have upped this games rating for me…
Adventure Mode - One of the modes to move on to after through with the story. This thing is so pointless and barebones to me. It could have had potential. SO much potential. You guys know Naruto has like 10 movies right? You know we all would be sooo pumped to play through all of them leading to The Last right? Instead you just replay battles from the past and collect memory shards…. Bruh…. Did you not learn to not make a hallow leaf village full of this crap in Storm 1? Instead you bring it to Storm 4? LOL Nah bro I’m not playing much of this mode unless some dope dlc is released. I mean why even put Boruto in this game to be honest when the story mode didn’t even let you know who he is or whose womb he came from instead players are going to be confused af like “Who dat fat faced nika like bish where?” LMFAO let’s get out of this lame Adventure mode that isn’t as good as Storm 3’s and go to the Online Battles and Gameplay.
Online and Gameplay - Going to start with the gameplay. Now this is where this is shining yo. Like I’m FAR from an amazing player at fighting games (Mostly a laid back story guy) But I can tell they changed A LOT from Storm 3 and that Revolutions demo I downloaded and deleted an hour later. First off I want to thank you for removing that GOD AWFUL option that says you have to pick between doing an awakening or doing your special… when I saw that… and I mean AS SOON as I saw that. I was not going to buy revolutions. That is the dumbest decision they have ever made throughout this franchise. Like why in the hell lol
Moving on we see a smarter AI system that even on hard mode gives you a run for your money. Really enjoyed playing the Free Battle when I was angry from getting my ass handed to me online 10 times in a row in ranked match but going to Public and winning 10 times in a row -_- Ok got off track back to the AI lol they really know when to block when to dodge your specials and how to use their subs at the precise moment. Very impressed at how they blocked and went into sub and into a complete combo when they see your subs are gone. The controls are still the same of course only one hit button and you do combos by pushing the left analog in a certain motion. Rather easy still not even close to the likes of Injustice that I was playing to see the difference between the fighters difficulty. Storm is an easy fighter. I can’t even win a damn player match on Injustice so for a non-fighter gamer this is a good thing for me. Others will be laughing at the lack of different move sets, but with the series having so many characters and form variations it makes up for it somewhat.
On to the online… and it’s okay at the moment. Really this is where you are supposed to be once you finish the story. Well, expect a lot of lag even on a damn 5ghz modem with over 500mpbs. Good grief as soon as a match starts there is this slight moment of lag that is so damn annoying. I have lost multiple fights because of lag in between and it pisses me off. When I play this Online I literally yell at the screen (If you don’t believe me 1v1 me I will turn on my mic LOL) the tournaments is what I loved the most about online and they have taken away from it what matters a LOT. The option to watch as the other opponent’s battle for the Trophy…. Like what in the hell…. What do you expect players who lost to do? Or better yet what are the players who won the matches and want to see how their opponent is playing? Instead you wait and wait for the names to be crossed off until you see the winner LOL no thanks I backed out 20 minutes ago and went to go play BF4. But once the lag settles down and aside from tournament mode you can expect an okay experience. Things need updating though such as the info card pics that have the SAME DAMN PICS from the previous Storms. Like yo ass couldn’t have done more screenshots you look like experts from what I’ve seen in the story mode HAHAHA. (Edit: The ranked matches are still not rewarding to mediocre players. They are going to stay mediocre throughout the whole thing because the low rate rewards and the high point loss when you lose. I have my Rank points at 200. I was supposed to rank up next match but I lost like an idiot but my points go down 140.... bruh. So I win the next match and then it only goes up like 40 LOL WOOOOOW)
So all in all I had a pretty good experience. Not as good as an experience as Storm 3 but the new battle system holds it together. It’s amazing cell shaded graphics make it a beauty to look at and it really holds together the story mode that falls a but flat from Storm 2’s quota. The online is still running with that starting lag but it seems to be working alright here lately. Have had no disconnections and its biggest downfall is it’s tournament mode. If I had to give this a complete unbiased rating I’d say a
7.5/10
