It doesn't really. The scanlines make the avatar look flat and they weight down on it.

Just some food for thought.

Just make sure the scanlines are on a layer of their own.

Then simply use the soft-edged eraser to rub some away. Simple!

Its easy just get a soft brush or a shadow brush and erase it.

OT: Looks good you improved quickly but the render isn't playing much of a role in those avatars try using less blending to the places where its not required.

For the beginner they are ok....
As for the scan line either they will help you to make avatar better or the opposite,depends on how you use them.

He affects are covering too much of the avatar, maybe next Time try putting the effects on positions where it won't cover much of the avatar up. Also the scan lines are a bit too much, try lightening them up a little
