After reading all of Boruto manga, I’ve developed my theory, the “Ōtsutsuki’s will/Tenseigan Theory”
(The following passage contains spoilers, don’t continue reading if you haven’t finished the Naruto/boruto manga. I know it's a bit lengthy but bear with me)

. How does this tie in here? Well momoshiki is from the otsutsuki clan and he has the byakugan, and we know that those two combined produces the tenseigan. I think among other things, momoshiki himself sought after the tenseigan. He was already powerful as is, but we know being powerful isn’t enough for an otsutsuki clan member, it’s about being the most powerful. Just as kaguya was ‘til the moment she got resealed, momoshiki was (and still is) power hungry. He (as well as other otsutsuki clan members) is chasing after god status, or in other words the god trees fruit. It’s the (main) reason for him travelling throughout the many vast time-spaces, it’s the same reason why kaguya was preparing an entire army for their arrival. Why go through these extreme measures? It's simple, to acquire and maintain more strength and more power, to be acknowledged as a God and become the sole authority in the Naruto verse. So how was momoshiki going to achieve this? By finding the god tree(s), eating their fruit and becoming even stronger, eventually unlocking the tenseigan and surpassing kaguya in the process.Although momoshiki never got ‘to see his own fate’, meaning he didn’t get the tenseigan and the power of the juubi god tree, things are far from over.

I think momoshiki set boruto up to get the tenseigan. Not only that, but by sharing his chakra with boruto (more on that later), he also passed onto boruto the Ōtsutsuki clan’s lust for power. From our introduction to boruto we see him playing his

Even though by the end of the movie and by chapter ten we see him appearing to have change his mind to not taking the easy route, not to gain power the fast way, I think this is a hint to us the readers and the viewers of what lies inside of boruto. ‘Those blue eyes will eventually take everything from you... those who defeat gods cannot remain ordinary individuals’. This is major foreshadowing and as good as any prophecy could get. These words from momoshiki tells me that boruto killing him physically, doesn’t means he’s defeated and really doesn’t change anything at all. It doesn’t mean things will go back to normal in konoha and it doesn’t mean the entire shinobi world is now safe. Why? Because we know that the

. I think momoshiki will survive and live on, but he’s going to do this through boruto. Whether or not momoshiki’s soul stays with boruto one thing he’s definitely going to get is that desire for power. I think that boruto killing momoshiki and getting the seal, which is confirmed to be momoshikis’ chakra(whether it was shared or recreated is debatable), would essentially make boruto take his place in the otsutsuki quest for power and universal domination. Think about it, even hagaromo was pleased to hear that Naruto

, and he helped defeat kaguya meaning he was on board the idea of him being indara’s reincarnation. He too accepted his fate (and continues to struggle with that acceptance). Plus,

, and I’d bet anything that if momoshiki saw in boruto even the slightest possibility for him to reach the very goal he wants to achieve himself, he could easily give boruto 85% - 90% of his chakra in the form of a seal, to later use as his ‘ninja tool’ or his ‘cheat codes’ to getting stronger and reaching insane power levels. Think about it, hagaromo faded away in a similar fashion to momoshiki in chapter ten after he distributed his chakra to Naruto and sasuke. I see future boruto becoming more and more drawn to those with power and eventually becoming obsessed with strong opponents and huge power sources, like he was with kawaki. I mean sure kid boruto isn’t there yet, and sure he chose not to use cheat codes in that hand-held game or use the ninja tool anymore, but this is still very early in the series, and this is the time where authors begin the development characters, and to see this so early on, how boruto, even as a kid, was conflicted with gaining power and getting stronger faster, in my opinion, it gives relevance to both the conflict with his hand-held and the conflict with the ninja tool.

; and the power, the chakra, the desire that is his seal has to spend time and grow with him like how it took time for Naruto and kurama’s chakra to perfectly mix and become compatible, it won’t make him like momoshiki overnight. I think in time boruto’s lust for power will manifest and grow and he’ll start to see the world more through momoshiki’s eyes [see what I did there] and start to draw parallels and comparisons between him and momoshiki, further realizing that momoshiki was right when he said boruto
