Yes, when Madara was on the verge of death, he awakened the rinnegan and transplanted it into Nagato. But I really recommend the manga because the anime teds to utterly ruin many awesome moments. Plus nothing feels better than holding a hard-copy of a naruto volume in you're hands! :D
