Itachi defeated OROCHIMARO easy, and mentioned the best he could do against JIRAIYA was a Tie or death, that doesn't mean ths JIRAIYA couldn't defeat him. And very strong sealing techniques, he sealed amatarasu.

Orochimaru is stronger since he has "Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation"....they might not be as good as Kabuto's or as strong, but they're still enough to finish Jiraiya.

Ya jirayai was always my favorite character. Shame Kishi killed him off. He was a very dynamic character and had enough jutsu to adapt to whatever opponent he was matched up against
