I guess it's because anime is generally considered non-canon. OP provided VIZ scans, it's known that it can expand, it's just unknown whether it expands automatically or by the user discretion.

I'm not saying that the Yata Mirror doesn't block everything, but couldn't Kishi have toned it down with the hyperbole a bit?

Nice thread and all, but one thing you must realise is that Kishi always like hyperboles in this manga. One day he says one thing and tomorrow you see the counter. Like he said Gaara's sand was the ultimate defense, yet Lee countered it. Like he said Susanoo was the ultimate defense, yet we saw that underground was the weakness. Like he says in his databook that Amaterasu burns at the same temperatur as sun, but we all know that it's impossible, or everyone around it would have been desintegrated in an instant.

If we go by that logic, must i say that Raikiri can pierce thru Yata mirror then? After all Raikiri's databook says it pierces thru everything:

If we go by the databook3, when Kakashi wasn't able to use his kamui perfectly, Kamui is the ultimate technique and against this technique no defense is possible(yata mirror included?)

Kakashi's original doujutsu, released from the "Mangekyou Sharingan". It allows one to transfer anything to another dimension. If one spends a lot of time and trains one's chakra over and over again, this technique can be invoked. The target is enveloped with a barrier space, and the user concentrates their mind to what they gaze at... The target can struggle helplessly, but against this technique no defence is possible. No matter what, the space will distort and draw the target in.

great find, that's canon proof that it's a 360 protection then. i suppose that does make it invincible apart from perhaps teleporting into susanoo itself and circumventing the shield, maybe. although, the fact that itachi's invincibility is intrinsically linked to his ability to wield a full susanoo doesn't say much really as he's only able to do so for minutes, at best. he needs to finish the match before he goes blind or dies of exhaustion.

I have one thing to say.

If that is true, then itachi will not be able to attack while he is holding yata mirror because it covers the susanoo when he is attacked.

In that case, as long as someone is able to continuously attack him, Itachi will have no way of retaliating because of the yata mirrors protection, which will force itachi to hold up susanoo and waste his chakra.

Though it's confusing as the Dust Release would cover the Susanoo and if the Yata Mirror gives a 360 protection zone, wouldn't it be from anything that attacks outside of it? Meaning attacks from the inside would still harm whatever is inside of the Yata Mirror's 360 protection if it sorrounds Susanoo from all angles. Hence why people say that only the Yata Mirror will remain if Jinton is used on Itachi.

If Dust Release detonates inside of Susanoo then would Yata Mirror engulf Itachi's body through the Susanoo?
