Well it is written for children but so is Harry Potter and you listed that as your favourite.
Try reading the first Percy Jackson book & see if you like it.

I really didn't get into Harry Potter until later in the series, probably around Order of the Phoenix, the last 2 books made it all worth while to me. Anyway, good advice, thanks ^_^
