Theory about Itachi, Danzo, and Akatsuki

this is why: danzo sent him on a mission to infiltrate akatsuki Danzo must have known about akatsuki back then, so he sent his best anbu member to gather info. We know that thats how Danzo operates, sending his members to distant land for long periods of time. Of course, what danzo did not take into account was Itachi working with Tobi as well, but thats a different story....

anyway, Itachi stays with akatsuki for two years, makes deals with obito and returns to become anbu captain for a short period before he kills off his clan with the help of obito.

Summary: According to the timeline Itachi was 11 when he cut off Orochimarus hand. Being An ANBU member simultaneously he could have been sent on a mission to infiltrate Akatsuki.

All of this above was never mentioned or anything else in the Manga nor Databook, which means that you presume that that happened, which make it fan-made.

Itachi didn't join Akatsuki until he killed his Clan, which happened when he become an ANBU Capitan, at age of 13.
