You pretty much answered your own question. "How did Itachi know Sasuke wasn't going to kill Naruto?" He didn't, He had no idea Naruto would later become his closest friend. He had no idea of Naruto's resolve. He had no way of knowing to what extent Naruto would go to save his friend. The fight in the end was merely an act to finally die by Sasuke hands.

Itachi knew that Sasuke would take his eyes to awaken the EMS. That is why he performed the entire act of trying to steal his eyes and explained to him how to get the EMS.

I know, but wouldn't it have been easier to do it in Sasuke's Sharingan or regular eyes? That way, the chance of failure would have been significantly decreased.

What I don't get is why Itachi put the order to protect Konoha within KA.to activate upon seeing his Mangekyou. Why not on Sasuke's Sharingan?

What do you mean, it was meant for sasukes EMS, which are itachis eyes

My guess is that Itachi wanted to see if Sasuke actually would give so much into hatred that he would forget his friends to get his revenge. Which he wouldn't have done if it hadn't been for Tobi ( Obito ).

Not to mention he lectures Naruto on the power of friends, then when Sasuke finds him, HE STILL TRIES TO ABANDON HIS DESPERATE DEPRIVED BROTHER and attempts to solo. Despite people saying Itachi soloed Kabuto, it was Sasuke who stayed by his side and made the defeat possible. Itachi owed so much to Sasuke, but he never came through. At least Itachi admitted he should have told Sasuke the truth that night rather then mind-raping him.

So your guess is to experiment with Sasuke when he can't even observe him? Sasuke already tried to kill Naruto three times before that.

itachi put the crow with that order in naruto, because he knew naruto would meet saskue again and that saskue would have his eyes(in which saskue do), he didn't expect to be reanimated with his eyes and face naruto with no control over his body.

Many of you are misunderstanding my question, yes it was as an act but how did Itachi know Sasuke was'nt going to pursue revenge to the extent that he would kill Naruto for the mangekyou. He trusts Naruto with saving Sasuke but he always told Sasuke to kill him.

he knew saskue wasn't evil, hell even now he still isn't evil, he just was manipulated so many times. if saskue wanted to kill naruto he would have made an effort to truly do so, every time he saw naruto he used no effort at all to try and kill him.

plus think about it, in part 1 itachi told saskue he gotta kill his best friend(naruto), considering the assignment that he and kisame had (to capture naruto) he knew naruto was a jinchuriki with the 9 tails inside him and knew he wouldn't die by saskue's hands.
