I never really payed attention to the plot when playing dead space games, I just played them for the scares and the atmosphere. However, i recently just played through them for the second time in anticipation of dead space 3. I played close attention to the plot and the backstory and I don't really understand the purpose of the marker. The marker drives people insane, the people then kill each other and become infected and turn into necromorphs. However, in the first game the red marker spoke to Isaac and told him to return to Aegis 7 in order to suppress the hive mind. I'm confused as to why the red marker wanted to stop the hive mind considering its what created the necromorphs in the first place.
Also, in the second game the marker tricked Isaac into trying to complete convergence. I have no idea what convergence is or what it does but I remember Unitoligists referring to it. Also at the end of dead space 2 Isaac runs into that regenerating creature that looks like a true alien, was it one of the real aliens behind the markers?
