Yamato is not as strong as hashi he is merely a watered down version and onoki breaks it down on a molecular level.

I believe the Hashi's Wood technique will always be strongest used by him, after all he created the Jutsu, it's not like the diluted KG Madara, Yamato & Zetsu all have, it's the original.
