Yahiko is the Deva Path.
The others are just people Jiraiya meet in the past who wanted peace in the world.

if you watch the tale of the gutsy ninja or in the manga you will see it's all people Jariaya met on his travels to find the child of prophecy.

The Deva Path is Yahiko, the 5 other original paths were all people that Jiraiya met in the past

Asura was a puppeteer
Naraka was a priest
Animal Path nr 1 was a shinobi Jiraiya fought
Animal Path nr 2 was some random chick from Ame
And I'm pretty sure Human and Preta both appeared at some restaurant.
