This is correct. It doesn't make sense to me at all.. Do they cut down trees before battle and pack them with them? Lol. If so, where do they keep them..?

When sasuke fought deidara deidara had sticky bugs all over him and his arms were stuck, but he still used it.

The ninja uses body flicker in combination with transformation jutsu to quickly pick up a random nearby object, transform it into himself, and then move away. With good timing, the opponent won't notice. I think it's quite simple, don't know why so many people have trouble figuring it out.

The idea is rather simple... switch places with an object so that it takes the attack instead of you (supposedly with the use of some kind of tag, seal, marking, etc).

Exactly how it works to be practical in combat is left to the suspension of reality. In theory, one would have a limited number of substitutions he/she could perform, and one would appear where the object was after using the jutsu. This would make practical use in combat somewhat difficult (though escape would be very simple).

Perhaps the best explanation is that each log (or other decoy object) is sealed much in the same manner as objects are into scrolls. Upon activation, the log is placed in the position of the user's body along with a means of limited teleportation or other method of displacement.

Though I think that would be looking too deeply into the mechanics of the technique. While I'm a perfectionist and like to have the mechanics of my own theoretical systems worked out rather carefully and realistically - sometimes we just need to have a little fun and let little things like that slide.

So you are saying that every ninja that can use substitution can use body flicker...?

Yes, body flicker is a basic technique too. Tho some ninjas get exceptionally good at it and become famous like Shisui.
