Yeah it wasn't perfect. But, from what I hear, the actual story was like that, if you read the light novels. Besides, the company who produced the anime wasn't paid to do the story arc, they were paid for 25 episodes of SAO. Thus, the story kinda got compressed and stretched at some points. And in terms of plotholes, there aren't really that many considering the story isn't all that complex, or at least nothing so big that it NEEDS to be explained or else it effects the entire story (besides, this isn't the full story arc anyways, this is only about 65% of it). And in terms of the story getting boring, it's supposed to cool down like that. The whole idea is that the main character ends up spending years of his life in this alternate world, where it starts to BECOME his real life. The point is that they aren't going to get to floor 100 in a couple of days, it's supposed to be like that. Although I value your opinion, at least support it logically.
