I'm sorry but without dbz there will be no onepiece, naruto, etc.
Dbz opened up a color and artistic way of fighting back to back in hyper speed

actually it is more dragon ball than dbz but yes its influential but not the best there is a difference

i disagree. DBZ was most certainly a stable in my childhood, as my brother and i raced home from school everyday to catch the new ep's with my dad. but as far as greatest, it's not because i don't think one series/movie could hold that title. it's all based on opinion. for instance, i loved dbz, but i put the likes of outlaw star, gundam wing, ergo proxy, and tenchi muyo above it over all....and of course i personally feel that akira should be at the pinnacle.

Saying DBZ is overrated on a Naruto forum, isn't going to get you the answers you want.
Most of the members on here, were most likely, fans of DBZ as children/teens and out of nostalgia they still enjoy the anime/manga.

As a fan of DBZ, I can honestly say that I agree with every point you made. It is repetitive, the plots aren't all that complex, and most of the characters are one-dimensional. However, I feel as though people don't really watch DBZ for it's plots or characters, they enjoy it for the grandeur of it's fights, transformations, and animation (of the time).

I expect to get flamed for my response, but that's life.

I do like DBZ, it's a part of my childhood, I simply don't agree with those that say it's the best anime of all time. It was the best at its time.

lol its funny that you should mention akira as that is what sparked kishi manga flame after he took 2 years out of manga and because of akira we have naruto
kishi said he seen the poster and stared at it for like an hour as he couldn't believe somebody could draw that

and that is there opinion. you've stated yours and so have they. it's the greatest to them. no harm in that right? im sure not everyone has the same opinion, but the majority of ppl who like naruto, tend to flock from anime's styled after DBZ, if no the original itself(although im not one lol).

i understand its peoples first anime as it is my first anime that i watched but it does get overrated as its peoples first as they will have the most nostalgia of the series also i believe one piece is a far better series than dbz as with one piece it feels like its going somewhere and thats what dragon ball had yet dbz didnt for me it was more like beat the strongest in the universe each time around
also its great if its your favourite anime or manga but doesn't necessarily make the best anime/manga of all time

This, otter is right its was made in a different time and a different audience which never witnessed such cool cartoons till DBZ came out it wasn't really for the story line as much as it was for keeping 8-16 year old entertained, it was for action for the most part.

really? i ultimately encourage you to do so! i truly is(in my opinion of course lol) is by far one of the founding stones of what we have today as far as anime and manga. i will admit, it is dark and gory and it does display ample amounts of elements of drug use and sexual content, but overall it is amazing.
