The Sage was born to fail there can never be peace in a ninja world, were people are taught to fight and kill to become Shinobi's. The Sage was a God in many peoples eyes he had the power to stop the war, you can say he'll be doin what Naruto is tryin to doin and that is by stopping the bad guys, but the Sage didn't he had the power to kill anyone but he failed at killing the bad guys cause he was too soft and only preached peace.
