like many others said, the circumstances of that fight wasn't in his favor plus his death in the story had a purpose (for his students to grow up and be strong). asuma was a HIGH jonin level shinobi, one of the guardian 12, son of hiruzen and an awesome character.

i would say he was kind of, he didnt have any really good moves that could end someone's life, all he had was that guardian bs, his knives and his fires style, i would say he was just average a little better than fodder

yup pretty much. Fodders are usually the ones that die and have no meaning.

The guy was awesome, i really loved his character but then he ended up losing to hidan who is such an extreme fodder its like what, how did he get into akatsuki, surely they are more skilled ninja that him. He's not powerful if thats the question but i would say that half his team was comprised of super fodder ninja who are called jounin lol. As far as jounin from konoha go id place him as a medium with kakashi, gai and yamato as the strongest among them

I just wonder, the last chapter showed a picture of all the characters who died. Why wasn't Asuma on it? I found that shitty. I think it only had Hiruzen, Jirayia, Minato, Kushina, Inoichi and Shikaku ohh and Chiyo I think.
