Itachi had mentioned Obito was also involved in the Uchiha Clan Massacre.

but why ???

Obito had no hatred for his clan.

was Obito's involvement under the instructions of Madara (because of his past hatred for his clan) ?

Probably because Obito was playing the part of Madara to fool itachi. And madara did foster hatred for the uchiha.

I dont think Itachi mentioned this but Tobi/Obito was the one responsible for Kuramas attack on the leaf which was the incident that lead to the elders suspicion/persecution of the Uchiha (which made the Uchiha in turn eventually plan the coup d'etat).

It was Madara, not Obito. Madara ordered Obito. Obito just delivered messages.

^^ based on my understandings.

Firstly, He instigated the idea of an Uchiha massacre by releasing the Kyuubi on the village, which of course rose suspicion over the Uchiha since the last attack was by an Uchiha as well.

Secondly, Itachi, through his reasoning, figured out "Madara" was still alive, so he sought him to help massacre his clan. The reason Itachi thought this was because of Madara was the only known person to control and use the Kyuubi to attack the village.

Obito did as madara willed then.
Also, maybe obito thought that the sharingan wielders may interfere with his plan.
