Hashirama Question

Though it isnt sure exactly what took place in the fight between Hashirama and Madara, why is it that there was even a fight. Technically to make things short, couldnt hashirama just have used this:

So, why not just do this early, especially if he could make forest in a instant like his hype suggest?

If it was able to knock madara out, just for 3 seconds, surely hashirama could have taken a quick victory over his rival.

I dont think madara used PS in his fight with hashirama, only because of this statement:

Perfect susanoo hype is that no one who has seen it has lived. So hashirama couldnt have seen it.
