I think Kishi needs to take some time off from the manga and regather his thoughts.

Recent chapters feel overly contrived and he's making it up as he's going along. I'm sure he has the whole bigger picture intact, but he has only so many hours in a week to fill what happens to each of the characters and events in the meantime. And it comes off with things such as Kishi suddenly deciding to kill off characters on a whim in one chapter and barely mentioning them the next, moving on to the next thing.

Like for example with every death you can explore it e.g. Asuma's death. That was poignant and beautiful. But with Shikaku's death, shit he died and he left his story.. and that's it. A semblance of a story is there but the feelings and emotions that go with it is rushed. Or e.g. Neji's death. Uncannily intelligent throwback, or overly corny, cheesy, and contrived resolution?

I respect Kishi as a brilliant storyteller but lately it feels he's off his game. It feels like he's been working overtime and is being whipped by the ever-present eager fans to provide the goods week after week. I think he's at a lull where he's at with the story and is just chugging along as he feels. Like it's not a form of play and wonder and excitement for him anymore full of possibilities, it's just work to move from one point of the story to another point in the story at a glacier's pace.

Don't get me wrong I love the manga. It's just that I think Kishi would do well if he took some time off and took a breather, maybe go swimming, catch up with friends, and take his wife on an overdue romantic holiday or something. And come back to the manga feeling refreshed and invigorated for the next phase of the story full of burning excitement and wonder as it once was. Just a fantastical thought I'm having :)

You should totally head over to Japan and tell him this. I'm sure he would love to hear your opinion.

Seriously though, he's doing fine. The whole Shikaku death story is continued with whatever the current plan is. I'm sure there will be some "remembering" when all is said and done.

i agree, but i don't think it's cause he's lost motivation. it's just unbelievably hard to make a full-blown war, even a single battle is amazingly hard. kishi bit off a bit more than he could chew with this one, it's impossible for him to treat it the way he does a normal arc (which he does brilliantly imo). it's too large of a scale for just one short chapter a week. he'd have needed doublechapters every week to pull off this war arc to his usual level i think.

@ OP: I agree. The manga seems very rushed...i won't be surprised if we see sasuke on the battlefield in the next few weeks.

To all those who are saying the war is being rushed -> what are you talking about?

It felt like this war was taking forever. The battle with the still-masked Tobi took forever. People made threads to the effect of "what's taking the other divisions so long to get here?" And now that a few (main character) deaths take place everyone is like "whoa whoa WHOA Kishi! Slow down!!!" It's not like there is time in war to have funerals and memorial services for everyone 0_o

How bizarre. :|

Shikaku died one chapter ago let them get it.His death was sudden but that is mainly painting a picture that is saying nobody is safe from war.Not to mention the fact it echoes that of a nuclear bomb.Remember they kinda got hit with one of those lol
Anyway give them more then one chapter to tell the story.Shikaku died but before he came up with a plan.A plan neji is willing do die for.

 Nobody wants the series to end...well i can speak for myself at least. Things seem to be happening too quickly for me. The juubi was resurrected way to quickly, we didn't even get to see madara and naruto have a decent close up fight like he did with the kage's.

^^^ These ^^^

The completion of the plan thought up by HQ will be a good memorial in and of itself of those who died.

The point of the thread?

You missed it.

It's not the pace. Neji hasn't had a decent fight and has barely shown up the entire war and then some chapters. The one chapter he shows up and actually does something as he gets the spotlight, he gets killed off. That's rather cheap and a bland way of killing someone off. It's like, he showed up for a few pages, got killed, and now he's permanently gone. Bad writing.

I did not miss the point of the thread. My post that you quoted was speaking to other posts in the thread aside from the OP (albeit not totally unrelated). :|

Anyhow, I thought Neji's death was handled just fine (and there may even be more about it next chapter). So you're entitled to your opinion that it is bad writing, but I'm also entitled to mine ;)

The Juubi had been "resurrecting" for quite a long time now (started way back when Obito still had his mask on). There simply was not enough time for Madara and Naruto to have a detailed fight (Kishi focused more on Obito/Kakashi).

That said, I understand the feeling that fans don't want the manga to end. :)

I agree. It almost feels as if he's just trying to get this over with as soon as possible. Maybe a short break would do him good - but god forbid that the fans don't get their weekly fill :|

And there are people who complain when it feels like he's trying to draw it out and make it last as long as possible. GOOD GRIEF

Anyways, I like the pace. I disagree with the OP, I think the whole point in not dwelling on the HQ deaths is the fact that there is shit going down RIGHT NOW, the badguys are not going to hesitate so everyone has time to hug each other. The K11 are the first generation without war, that's a main theme of the Shippuden series. War doesn't give you space and that is what they're experiencing for the first time. The readers also aren't given space to reflect on each character death, so making it rushed (if it feels that way), might be an intentional storytelling choice. So the recent deaths are the kind that impact that generation directly so it's interesting to see how the author handles how each one of them copes. Ino, Choji, and Shikamaru have already coped with death before.

Then if you didn't miss the point, you obviously didn't even bother addressing it, to which I ask, what the hell are you doing on this thread, then?

Nice way of copping out of a debate. What a drag, I typed all of that out only to receive some inane platitude in return.

I would like to refer you to my original post in this thread:
